European draw and play dates

I'd say it's unlikely.  If we get a good draw, it is possible but when you get to the 3rd qualifying round, there's some quality sides in there.

Mind you, I thought we had no chance last year and Gerrard seems quite good at setting up the side to be difficult to beat.

PREMIERSHIP trio Rangers, Kilmarnock and Aberdeen will be playing European football in July.

All three teams will be involved in the Europa League qualifiers this summer after Rangers and Killie secured the automatic spots.

The Dons had to rely on Celtic to do them a favour by beating Hearts in the Scottish Cup final, which they did thanks to Odsonne Edouard.

Rangers finished second in the Ladbrokes Premiership for the first time since their promotion back to the top flight since 2016.

Steven Gerrard's side did this fairly comfortably in the Liverpool legend's debut season as a manager.

However, his side lost 2-1 to Killie on the last day of the season which meant Steve Clarke's old team snatched third spot from Derek McInnes' men in dramatic fashion thanks to an Eamonn Brophy penalty.

Here's all you need to know ahead of the first Europa League qualifying draw.

When is the draw?

All three sides will learn their European opponents on Tuesday June 18.

First and second qualifying round draws will be made in Nyon, France on this day.

The third round qualifying draw will take place on Monday July 22 and the final play-off round draw will be on Monday August 5.

Due to Celtic's Scottish Cup win, Rangers have been handed a boost and will enter qualifying in the second round and they WILL be seeded.

For Killie and Aberdeen they will play in the first round of qualifiers - both sides are seeded as well.

Who could the Scottish side's play?

Both Killie and Aberdeen could face trips all over Europe with anywhere from Northern Ireland to Azerbaijan on the cards.

Potential opponents could be Alashert of Armenia, Dinamo Minsk in Belarus, Apollon Limassol of Cypurs, Malmo in Sweden or Connah's Quay Nomads, Wales.

In QR2 though, due to Kilmarnock's co-efficient ranking, they will be unseeded, but Gerrard and McInnes' men will remain seeded at this stage.

Killie could then land a bumper tie against EPL rich-kids Wolves, Israeli threat Hapeol Beer-Sheva, Roma or this season's Europa League semi-finalists Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Gers and Dons will avoid the big names until round three if they make it, where all three Scottish teams will then be unseeded.

This is where it could get tricky and they may face any of the above teams or Spartak Moscow, Braga or AEK Athens.

A play-off round when then greet the winners of the QR3 section of the tournament to get the chance to join Manchester United, AC Milan, Besiktas and Sporting Lisbon in the group stages.

When will the games be played?

The first leg of QR1 will be on Thursday July 11, with the return game a week later on July 18.

For at least Rangers, the first game of the second qualifying round will be held on July 25.

The second leg of this round will be on August 1.

A week later on August 8, the first QR3 game will take place before the return game on August 15.

The fourth and final play-off round will then take centre stage on August 22.

The return leg for that game will then be on August 29, with the draw for the Europa League group stage a day later on August 30.

We will enter at the second stage and will be seeded at that stage according to the Sun.

I reckon that article has two fundamentals wrong.

1. Date of draw for EL 1st & 2nd rounds is 19th of June (not 18th)

2. By far the most important, according to Bert Kassie, we have to play in QR1.

Yes, the draw for the first and second qualifying rounds is on Wednesday 19th June (the CL draw is the day before).

We will play in Q1 and will be seeded for that and Q2 should we qualify (as will Aberdeen).

It means we are back at Ibrox for sunny evening summer football? I really enjoy it, it’s fantastic for Europe but wouldn’t change to summer league football.
