VanguardBears are to join protests against Glasgow City Council

The 2011 census results said 27% are RC, 27% said Church of Scotland or other Christian and 38% stated no religion. Remainder are Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, Jewish or Buddhist.

There have been Irish Republican marches in Glasgow for a long time, I remember them going through Milton in 1980s at the height of the 'Troubles'. There was usually bother at them then from stone throwing to full scale attacks on them.

Yeah, we get that you think that the statement was badly worded. Rather than be pedantic, why not address the main issue of their complaint? Not everyone is as clever as you.

I have addressed the main issue of their complaint. There are NO no go areas for Protestants in Glasgow.

Thank's John !

I think that those numbers point to a difficult task for an emerging lobby/pressure group on the protestant side.

I reckon that just like the football politics within Glasgow, that more of the RC side will be politically active and generally more practised at it.

They also have a union of sorts with the politicians of the day, as well as important media outlets.

Just out of interest...as I'm a non-Protestant supporter of Rangers, can someone please define what Protestant culture is? These guys seem to clearly see no difference between the OO and Protestantism. And what areas of Glasgow are no go areas for Protestants? Who enters a neighbourhood and declares their religious faith? Or are they simply talking about the OO?

I only ask because of the 6 CoS going Protestants I know, not one would go near the OO with a barge pole

Why, are they bigots?

I think the 'Protestant no go area' wording was unwise.  It comes down to civil liberties, compromise and whether your actions are negatively affecting other people's rights and places of worship.

Some of us are more concerned about NI and PUL issues than others.  I don't see attitudes changing much on these matters and have contributed to and witnessed these debates for years on various forums.

The term 'going round in circles' springs to mind.

Bigots? Far from it. They are pretty level headed people with zero interest aligning their faith with football, the politics of NI or the OO.

To not align their faith with  the Orange Order is their choice but why would you use such a disparaging phrase as ' not one would go near the OO with a barge pole'.
Why, what has the Orange Order done that they would be so intolerant, or is that your opinion?

The correlation between nationalist socialists and OO haters is indeed strong.
