Rangers: Jermain Defoe faces no disciplinary action over penalty incident

Jermain Defoe wins a penalty for Rangers against St Mirren
Jermain Defoe won the second of four Rangers penalties in Saturday's 4-0 win over St Mirren

Rangers striker Jermain Defoe will not face disciplinary action for falling under the challenge of Paul McGinn to win a penalty against St Mirren.

The incident was examined by the Scottish FA's compliance officer.

However, there was deemed to be insufficient evidence to charge the former England forward with simulation.

Earlier on Tuesday, Rangers boss Steven Gerrard accused Kilmarnock counterpart Steve Clarke of "trying to get" Defoe, 36, banned.

The Rugby Park boss had compared the incident to one for which winger Jordan Jones received a retrospective two-match ban.

The penalty was one of four awarded to Rangers by referee Andrew Dallas in their 4-0 victory over the Paisley side.

This was all down to the Scottish gutter press again and  they've failed again, Morelos now Defoe, but it won't end here, they will continue with the onslaught, which only makes it even more difficult to challenge for the title.

Which means when we win it, it will be all the sweeter - no need for demotions or to try to eliminate the competition - we will win it in spite of officialdom, not because of it !

I hope BBC Sportscene pundits Michael Stewart and Steven Thompson are upset about this.

To be fair Stewart said it was not a penalty but also there was no attempt to win one so he has nothing to be upset about but for Thomson who knows??

However I feel the one to be censured is Clarke,he has brought himself, his club and officials into disrepute.

What needs to be made abundantly clear to the public is how and why the CO decides which incidents to review.
She should publish a list of all incidents reviewed and her reasons for reviewing an incident.
Surely this would then eliminate 'trial by mhedia'.

BBC Sportscene pundit Stewart didn't call it simulation?
