Ramon Vega to challenge Gianni Infantino for FIFA presidency

Recommended Posts

FORMER Celtic defender Ramon Vega is set to challenge FIFA president Gianni Infantino in June's presidential elections for football's governing body.

Vega, 47, has been working as a financial advisor in London since hanging up his boots and is now planning to run against Infantino for the FIFA presidency.

The defender - who also played for Tottenham and Watford, as well as the Swiss national side - requires five nominations before February 5 in order to stand in the elections.

Vega told German newspaper Suddeutsche Zeitung that he was considering running for the contest, that will take place in Paris on June 5 before the Women's World Cup gets underway.

Vega said: "Because of the great response and the positive reactions that I have from many sides I take this task seriously and see if there is any need in the football world to bring about the election of the next FIFA President in June by means of a democratic election campaign."
