[FT] Kilmarnock 2 - 1 Rangers (Defoe 12)

Recommended Posts

Listening to BT and Walker (?) and Craigan (?) can cause serious brain damage ... switched that sound off after 30 mins.

How Killie manages to stay were they are is a statement of all the ills of the "Scottish game". Soak up pressure, try to get the ball and lump it forward in a hit-and-hope-like manner. In days gone by this was called kick-and-rush, methinks. Unless you keep them occupied in their half, they will stand and watch on with us getting 60odd % of possession doing nothing but running about and hoping for an error. Obviously, the pitch suits that stuff.

We need to get the ball up the park and keep it there. Draw fouls near the area, score a goal and make them open up. Easier set than done, of course, and it might become dire to watch. As was to be expected. And obviously, the fixture machine handed the Scum an easy home tie against St. Mirren, who haven't had a single attempt on goals in the first half and are swamped by the Hooped Horrors.

As I noted elsewhere, these away games and pitches have all the potential to become an early points-grave ...

There's a big onus on the centre halves to recycle possession but no-one should be giving the ball away as cheaply as that.  It's not good enough and could easily cost us three points.

However, the rest of the team isn't doing the business which is why Worrall is seeing too much of the ball in the first place.

A lot of work to do in the second half and every player will have to lift their game ten fold.
