Rogic Out Of Match On 29th

Recommended Posts

Tom Rogic looks set to miss the clash with Rangers on December 29 after being called up by Australia for the Asian Cup.

The St Pats' midfielder is joined in Graham Arnold's squad by Hibs trio Mark Milligan, Martin Boyle, and Jamie Maclaren - also likely to miss the Edinburgh derby on the same day.

An Australian Football Federation spokesman told BBC Scotland they cannot play on December 29 - but will be available for the December 26 fixtures.

He said: "This is two days over the Fifa regulation and has been communicated with all clubs.

"It ensures some players get an extra game in for their clubs and enjoy Christmas with their families and friends at home."

The Premiership quartet will take part in the tournament that runs during the winter break.

It begins on January 5 with the final played on February 1.

After the Lafferty fiasco, I would not discard this. But in all honesty, I can clearly envisage Rogic being given leave for this "crucial game" and also the Racist riding to the Scum's rescue just in time.

AUSTRALIA appear to have ended any hopes of Celtic and Hibs stars being given special dispensation to play in their crunch derby showdowns.

The Parkhead and Easter Road sides were outraged to discover Tom Rogic won't be available to play against Rangers, while Martin Boyle, Jamie Maclaren and Mark Milligan can't face Hearts.

All four have been told to fly out from Scotland on Boxing Day as part of the Socceroos' preparations for the Asian Cup.

Brendan Rodgers and Neil Lennon were hoping that Australia boss Graham Arnold would allow their players to fly out later.

But Football Federation Australia have firmly closed the door shut on any suggestion they could be flexible and allow their Scottish-based stars to delay their departure to the United Arab Emirates, where the tournament is being held.

It’s also where they play Oman on a friendly on December 30.

The governing body pointed out they have already given players extra time at home to allow them to spend Christmas Day with their families.

FFA’s head of performance Luke Casserly explained: "It’s difficult but it is what it is and we have to protect the integrity of our national teams and we will do that.

"In the UK, in particular, it’s a really busy time and it’s a tough period. But, from our perspective, this tournament is once every four years.

"Graham Arnold has been in constant communication with Brendan Rodgers regarding Tom Rogic and the fact is nations like Iran and Saudi Arabia are already in camp.

"We haven’t called everybody in at the first possible opportunity. We’ve allowed them to play games.

"But we have our own work to do to prepare for the tournament, and we have left things as long as we can to help the clubs.

"There has to be a cut-off point and we will basically have all the players flying out Christmas night, or Boxing Day night, to assemble in Dubai by the 27th."

As has been said, I'll believe it when the teams take the field.

BTW, I wouldn`d mind if someone floors Forrest and Christie inbetween, who have been standouts for them of late. It is about time that injury-"luck" swings our way too ...

He'll be playing in the derby.

For once, I don't think they'll be able to force this one.

They still have several good options for the position but with Rogic goes what has been their experienced  'Joker Card' on many occasions.
