The Winter 2018/19 - Transfer Window Rumours and Deals - Thread

Recommended Posts

Think we might all agree we appear to be heading to come out of this window noticeably stronger. The usual haters have little to say beyond the standard grunts we have become accustomed to. Geriatrics, has beens, bang average, going bust, tick tock, etc.

But there are some of a more balanced viewpoint who acknowledge the real depth and quality coming into our squad.  From a Hearts forum.

Jermain Defoe free to leave Bournemouth and being linked with Rangers. Would either be a phenomenal signing or a waste of a colossal wage.

A great signing for them would walk into any other team in league up here

If Defoe goes to them then they will win the league.

McFadden said on Sportsound that we'd signed old players for an already ageing squad whereas Celtic have gone in the other direction. A very ignorant comment because our squad is not at all ageing. Gerrard has brought in experience for that very reason. I did a quick check on our starting line-up versus theirs in the last game and our average age was 26 and theirs 27.

McFadden should stick to hair transplants...

With regards to the average age of our team, if you took McGregor and Arfield out of the equation our average age would be much lower than 26. McGregor in particular is skewing the average age stats so McFadden (as usual) is talking ballacks

We have went for quality and experience who are past their best, in the hope that they can show that quality and do a short-term job.

They have continued down their usual M.O. and signed players who haven't yet reached 'quality at a decent level or experience' and they hope they will develop over time.

For us (Davis and Defoe) it's down to legs and staying fit.

For them, it's a big ask to fast forward development and make it work immediately.

Transfer window still open.................

1 year extension for Hardie and at Livingstone for the rest of the season. The ideal outcome imo. Hopefully he keeps proving to Gerrard he can score goals at this level for the remainder of the season.

Gerrard leaves the door open and it's up to the lad to get into the Livingston starting XI and score goals.

I hope there is a clause that awards a winner at the Brendenbeu with an extra year !!
