Looks to me like he's got our dithering Dave by the goolies and every now and then he's going to give them a squeeze  .

King is the club's chairman, not the club's owner. Wonder why people constantly assume that this is solely between King and the Fat Man ...

From Twitter something that makes sense (to me):

So of course Rangers are in breach of contract, being in breach of contract was probably the only way to get out of the original deal.

Folk seem to forget we were tied to a deal that brought in no money with a 7 year cancellation period.

So to get out of that we paid £3m and promised to give them an option to match any new deal, with no intention of ever allowing them to do that.

We're like someone who has been imprisoned in a lunatics basement who offered to let us out if we promised to marry them. Of course we said yes and of course we had no intention of ever marrying them, we told them what they wanted to hear. We only had a range of options:

1. Continue with the deal for 7 years...not an option

2. Not sell any jerseys at all...not an option

3. Sign a new deal with SD...not an option

4. Tell Sports Direct what they want to hear then sell through another party and take the consequences of a breach of contract.

Once compo is agreed we should be completely free of Sports Direct entirely. The end of a long running saga.

5. SD take an injunction out to prevent the sale of any kit. SD refuse to agree any compensation short of what they would have made during the 7 years, or just refuse full stop and we're back at option 2.

It's not as simple as just agreeing compensation. We've already paid them £3m and haven't got rid of them.

It seems that way and this I think is personal for Ashley, who was always likely to look to maximise pain and it's duration.

But wouldn't that not stand against ANY sort of business interest SD (and not Ashley) has with Rangers? I mean, contract or not, if we don't sell any merchandise they will get at best a minimal amount, and while Ashley does own SD by a few %, other shareholders are sure mightily pissed off? That aside, IMHO it beggars belief that there is no contract / business law in Britain that prevents this kind of business behaviour.

BTW, AFAIK, SD has continued to sell our merchandise despite our new contract ... which would probably lessen any damages claims somewhat.

Looks like the Yahoos' glorious CL run last season has just paid our legal bills ...

Premiership clubs get £4m windfall from Celtic's Euro run

Celtic's 11 Premiership rivals are each to be handed a £370,000 windfall on Thursday thanks to their Champions League run last season.

By reaching the group stages of the competition last time out, Brendan Rodgers' side received a huge financial boost.

Qualification also secured each of their top-flight opponents from last campaign their share of a £4m "solidarity payment".

It's the second year on the trot that the Hoops' European run has led to a pot of over £4m being handed out by UEFA to Scottish Premiership teams.

Next season, clubs won't be in line for such a boost though after Celtic crashed out of qualifying for Europe's premier competition this time around.

Neil Doncaster, chief executive of the SPFL, said: "This is welcome news for the clubs involved in last year's Premiership.

"As well as clear financial benefits for top flight clubs, Scottish clubs performing well in European competition increases the league's profile, which is good for everyone."
