Bidding war

Eleven Sports ‘ready to rival’ BT Sport and Sky for Scottish football rights as SPFL hold ‘preliminary talks’ with Amazon and Facebook

The SPFL are inviting broadcasters to bid as they rival each other to land the biggest TV deal in Scottish football history this month.

ELEVEN SPORTS are ready to rival BT Sport and Sky for the rights to show Scottish football, according to reports.

The SPFL are inviting broadcasters to bid as they look to land the biggest TV deal in Scottish football history this month.

The Daily Mail claims Eleven are in the running, while Amazon and Facebook have also held preliminary talks with Neil Doncaster.

Eleven, founded by Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani, has won exclusive rights to show matches in Serie A, La Liga and the US PGA Championship in the UK and Ireland.

And Sportsmail says sources close to the broadcaster would not rule out a bid, calling it an “interesting property”.

A new deal could see clubs double their money through a £40million-a-year deal when the current contract ends in 2020.

The previous record deal for Scottish football remains a £31m-a-year deal with Setanta.

BT Sport and Sky Sports are said to have already wined and dined SPFL chiefs in a bid to show their commitment to the Scottish game.

It is believed Premiership clubs hope a new deal will be in place by April next year when broadcast giants go head-to-head for a new Champions League deal.

Anyone think we will get a whopper of a deal with the SPFL doing the negotiating

Nope, not a chance. The only reason anyone would see new value in Scottish football is the Gerrard revolution but expect the SPFL to make an arse of it.
