GERRARD MUST UNLEASH GREZDA ON SUNDAY

Recommended Posts

An opinion I tend to agree with in the circumstances.

Steven Gerrard must unleash attacker Eros Grezda in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday, after he’s proved that he’s back to fitness for Albania.

He played the full 90 minutes in the UEFA Nations League game against Israel on Sunday, after managing just 45 minutes in the friendly against Jordan the week before.

The £1.8million signing has struggled with injury since he signed in the summer but was acclaimed by Gerrard, who said he was the best Osijek player last season and was a “dangerous” attacker.

Grezda could solve a huge problem for Rangers. Generally preferred as a wide attacker, Grezda can also play through the middle. He lined up as a striker in Albani’s game against Jordan.

Rangers play Aberdeen in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup on the 28th October and they’re going to be without both recognised strikers, Alfredo Morelos (suspended) and Kyle Lafferty (cup-tied).

Grezda could be given that role but he will have to play for Rangers against Hamilton on Sunday first.

Hamilton is the perfect game to give him his first start – they’re struggling this season and have lost six of their eight league games so far.

Rangers can’t afford any more slip-ups in the Premiership but they can afford to let Grezda loose on Hamilton and take him off at half-time if it isn’t working.

He could be the player that Gerrard can rely on against Aberdeen and he could help fire his club one step closer to their first trophy under their new manager.

The 3 points v Hamilton are vital in the sense that it's not going to get much easier than this in an away match.

With that in mind and considering we should have the squad depth to deal with Hamilton playing a virtual second string it's the only chance we have to experiment with the front line before the semi.

Eros Grezda pushing for first Rangers start as he reveals talks with Steven Gerrard

Eros Grezda is pushing for a first Rangers start this weekend after getting the go-ahead from boss Steven Gerrard to line up for Albania.

The £2million signing from Osijek completed a first 90 minutes in six months in his country’s 2-0 Nations League defeat to Israel on Sunday..............

Priority at Hamilton has to be our first 3 points away from home and that probably means Grezda on the bench.

Looking forward to seeing Grezda. Id still start Morelos against Hamilton to try get the tie wrapped up early then perhaps start with Grezda wide for fitness purposes, alternatively give him the last half hour upfront if we are leading.

We will be stuck for the Semi though, could Candeias even be an option through the middle in that game? That could mean Tav playing ahead of Flanagan for width.

On a sidenote, Thisisfootball is nothing more than another attention ... ahem click-seeking website that posts controversial headlines with articles that could come straight out of a fanboard ...

The problem with Grezda and Sadiq is that we have a settled starting line-up that gets results, which we need at this moment in time. There is, IMHO, a certain reluctance in substituting people. While we hardly know anything about the fitness- and injury-levels of all the players, you would have hoped to see more of Middleton, Grezda and even Sadiq by now. How else will we bring the latter two up to match sharpness ...
