Great to see Abu Dhabi Town, the vanity project and PR masterpiece, financially doped beyond its eyeballs, come up short against the pride of North London.

Enjoyable match to watch, I must say, with a couple of cracking goals. Overall, Abu Dhabi was the better side, although whether it 'deserved to win' is moot. The resolution of injury-hit Spurs surely must count.

No doubt debate over Llorente's goal will continue. I am unsure about it myself. I have to ask, however, that had he been defending, would the referee, VAR-aided or not, have awarded a penalty?

VAR appears to be an expensive interruption to play that doesn't always provide what it says on the tin.

Yes, but would the officials have awarded a penalty, if a defender had bundled the ball -a la Llorente- away from goal?

I suspect not, but am no expert.

I don't get the bad feeling against Man City. Yes, they have had funding from the Middle East but we've received funding from South Africa, Bahamas, England etc.

Speaking for myself, it's not so much where it comes from but the quantums involved and how that effects competition.

Me? I am so glad both teams from that city are out as I still have bad feeling towards the treatment of our fans at the EUFA final.

GMP are hardly representative of Mancunians.

As for City, I've been to see them on several occasions and always wanted them to do well.  In recent years, I've lost all interest in English football and the Oil money and half and half scarves are both contributing factors.  I also can't stand Pep Guardiola - when will someone tell him his hood is inside out!?

I hope Ajax win it.

It's the first Champions League game in years that i can say I truly enjoyed. If only all European football could be like that. Pity there had to be a loser.

Criticising Man City because they spend lots of money is just stupid. Football isn't a socialist enterprise and clubs in the modern era have always bought success, including Rangers. That an exception comes along once in a blue moon takes nothing away from the reality that financial muscle has always been the principal foundation of success on the park. If you don't like that reality try finding another activity where money counts for nothing.

Semi's this week.

Tottenham v Ajax

Barcelona v Liverpool.

Very good fixtures. The first one everyone would have had this being Man City v Juventus so fair play to both sides. Its a very attractive game and its good to see Ajax back at the elite, I just hope its not a one off with all their good players being picked off.

I think Spurs will win on the night by a goal.

I hope Messi produces a masterclass and they give Liverpool a lesson.

Im going:

Spurs 1-0 Ajax

Barca 2-0 Liverpool
