The EPL limits clubs to having 2 loanees at once, and 4 in a season. That’s a much more sensible approach than what we’ve got.

We can potentially field half a team that isn’t ours just now and that’s ridiculous.

But they ARE ours for the term of their contract. We have it in black and white to prove it. At the end of their contract term they revert to their previous contract with another club.

SO, how exactly is the loan system NOT allowing the game to be more competitive????

How is it better for players to be sitting around, not getting games, not developing in any way.  EVERY player that we have either brought in on loan or sent out on loan will have learned and developed as a player....which can only be good for the game as a whole.

In the absence of a loan system talented young players would still play but would be registered with smaller clubs.  Smaller clubs would then be able to gain medium term rewards when selling players.

As it is the small club takes a short term risk, ie playing the young player, and the rich club keeps any medium/long term reward.

The best teams will always end up rich.  That will not, and should not, change.  There is no reason to structure football in a way that makes it even easier for them to use wealth as an advantage.  In addition to the loan system rich clubs also gain an unfair advantage from playing youth teams in lower divisions and seeded cup competitions.

Bottomline, you are a Football Socialist

Maybe one day, you'll see why we need such changes/corrections in wider society (in The Lounge).

I'm not a football socialist.  If you have reached that conclusion then I suggest paying closer attention to what I am saying.

Sport is a competition.  Life isn't.  Well, maybe in some respects it is but not others.

Football is a waste of time if the competitive element is eliminated (which it is in some ways).

Professional football is a long way from being a sport,...It's big business that dominates nearly all decisions and uses football as a vehicle.

The loan system as it is currently used is a direct consequence of the financial imbalance in favour of clubs from the English premier league and one or two others. Back in the day players of the standard of Kent & Ojaria would have signed for us for half a million. But since teams like Liverpool can hoover up the market of young talent then these boys end up with artificially high transfer values which clubs like Rangers can’t afford. So I won’t feel any guilt about taking loan players, it’s the same level of player we would be signing permanently. Kyle Bartley, Vladimir Weiss, Harris Vukcic, Jason Cummings, Coulibally are/were all decent players who will never play for a bigger club than us.
