You can explain it , they were at home , playing in front of their own fans , in a game against a very poor team , they were in their beds by 11 o'clock , we player 53 minutes with 10 men , then 9 men against a decent team ,away from home , you would be lucky if they got to their beds before 5am .

you simply cannot ignore that , the percentage of teams that play away games in Europe and drop points next game is astonishingly high .

im as disappointed as anyone .

Well, SG himself poured scorn on the jet lag theory after an earlier round. Modern athletes and fitness and so on...

The front players were to isolated too get any quality coming out of defence. Along with the 2nd half with Motherwell, that's 2 games that we've squandered the midfield for long balls. I hope this is not a sign of things to come because we have Lafferty ie. A big guy up front

Agreed.

Everyone wanted a target-man.... :ninja:

We rode our luck, certainly for all -all- of the 1st half, and rode it raw. From the kick off, we looked anxious, lacking in confidence, and slow. It looked like we were overawed, or didn't want it, or, possibly, both. Some of it could be put down to legginess post-Rus, but it wasn't just tiredness on display.

Perhaps the Ufa fallout determined the Remember the Alamo tactic, but the team selection looked more positive than that, so standing off and defending so very deep was somewhat confusing.

Overall, a team should not expect to play for 10 mins or so of a 90 min game and expect anything.

A crashingly disappointing result, which in no way could be redeemed by an abject performance, the like of which I had thought we had left in the past.

We knew their weakest point was the defence, yet we opted not to test it! SG must take some blame, surrendering the midfield.

I don't think we surrendered it, we had 5 players in there , they were just better because we didn't press , but it's done we just have to move on .

We didn't surrender the midfield; we blocked off the midfield quite effectively.

We did surrender possession to their back-three/four, which was not a bad thing in itself.
