Club Statement- Murdoch MacLennan

Recommended Posts

You actually wonder whether MacLennan has the gall to stay on despite there obviously is a conflict of interest. That aside, it beggars belief that he was introduced into that job despite these allegiances. But the icing on the cake is that the same SPFL board who probably voted him in has to decide whether he can actually stay on.

You wonder what route is open if he stays on ... as seemingly the in-house decisions are clearly not the way ahead for the SPFL in this case.

On a sidenote, it is beyond me that the SPFL board / authorities is actually been made up of people belonging to clubs ... so conflict of interest is sure going to be an inbuilt problem at one point or another.

if this swine is not going to quit, and, if the SPFL Board does not have the professional and moral integrity  to ask for his resignation, or to dismiss him, then he must be neutered. The Club's present statement is useful in that regard.

In a practical sense, it is difficult to see how he may function, and how business may run smoothly and without undue delay, when every intervention, utterance, and vote by the scoundrel will be subject to the closest scrutiny and analysis, each, one hopes, down to their very kernel.

There are other points of interest:

1. this character, known as a loudmouth in the newspaper industry, has kept extremely quiet

2. the SPFL Clubs, a number of whom must realise -must have for some time- that they have been stripped, hog-tied, and rogered unremittingly by another member Club, are too embarrassed to face up to this fact, and act with honesty, courage,  and integrity.

Rangers have called for Scottish Professional Football League chairman Murdoch MacLennan to leave his post.

The SPFL previously rejected the club's calls for MacLennan to be suspended over alleged business links to Celtic shareholders.

In a statement, Rangers said the SPFL should have agreed to an independent investigation into the issue.

It read: "Rangers is left with no alternative but to call for Mr MacLennan to stand down."

In May, Rangers chairman Dave King called for MacLennan to be suspended and for an alleged conflict of interest to be investigated.

A newspaper report said MacLennan has business links to Celtic shareholders. However, at the time, the SPFL said no investigation was "warranted".

'Clear scope for conflict of interest'

The governing body added: "It's not surprising that Murdoch, having stepped down as deputy chairman of Telegraph Media Group, should be approached by other businesses in that sector.

"The members of the SPFL board were each informed of Murdoch's appointment on January 19 2018, the same day it was publicly announced in a press release from Independent News & Media PLC. That release was also circulated to the entire SPFL board that day.

"The appointment was widely reported in the national media at the time, including in the Sunday Times, Belfast Telegraph and Sunday Independent. No director raised this issue subsequently and it was not the subject of any board discussions.

"To be definitive, a non-executive position on a PLC does not constitute a business relationship between that individual and a minority shareholder in the company and therefore no investigation is warranted."

Rangers say it is "surprising" that "Mr MacLennan does not recognise and acknowledge that there is clear scope for conflict of interest between the duties owed by him to the SPFL and its shareholders and the duties he now owes to INM and Mr [Dermot] Desmond and Mr [Denis] O'Brien as INM shareholders".

The Ibrox club added: "Rangers believes that Mr MacLennan cannot be considered fit and proper to continue in his role as SPFL chairman as he is now obliged to recuse himself from meetings and decision-making processes which could impact on member clubs. The SPFL needs a chairman that can openly participate in all meetings."

The SPFL "notes the contents of Rangers' latest press release. The board has already made its strong and overwhelming support for the chairman very clear and we consider the matter closed."

This just shows how corrupt the organisation is.  I've yet to see any response which addresses the concerns raised by the club.  They appear to think that they can ignore these points and move on.  You wouldn't get away with that in any other walk of life and I'm utterly bewildered at how brazen they appear to be about this.  Where are the other clubs in this?  Are they allowing Rangers to go it alone?  Are they fearful of the consequences if they are seen to ask the same questions?  Is it maybe a case of them being embarassed that none of them identified this conflict?

Either way, this is stinking to high heaven and we should prepare for a full frontal assault on this rancid organisation.

Doncaster & Regan were Liewell's placemen.

Regan has gone & some sort of normality now seems to be returning to the SFA.

However the SPFL remain a problem whilst Doncaster & MacLennan are still there. The club must continue to do all it can to remove these two which includes enlisting the support of other clubs

Unless I'm mistaken, SR has a position with the SPFL. Does he ever raise issues like this with them ?

He strikes me as a bit spineless.  We need tougher blokes than him fighting our corner.
