The Ibrox flop lasted just half a season in Scotland before being sent to Pedro Caixinha's Cruz Azul in January, but his loan spell there was cut short after a series of off-field mishaps. Pena then checked into rehab in Tijuana last week in a bid to recover from his alcohol problem. But the 28-year-old, who has two more years left to run on his Ibrox deal, was handed a career lifeline by Necaxa on Thursday. The Liga MX side welcomed him with a message on Twitter saying: "Come on Gullit! To defend these colours" Pena spoke out earlier this week about his troubles with alcohol, revealing that former Gers boss Pedro Caixinha was aware of his struggles before signing him. He said: "Caixinha knew about my issues, we were together for six months in Scotland so he was aware about my situation. "I want to cleanse myself, that's why I have come here. I have a problem and I still have it, but I am getting treatment for it. "The people here are wonderful. I have heard some incredible stories. They have made me feel valued again. "I want to return to being a father, a husband, a son and a brother.
