..................However, USA-based Johnston, who joined the Rangers board last June having been chairman of the club between 2009 and 2011, insists the board will take emotion out of their decision on the future of the club’s former under-20s coach.

He said: “We have had the discipline of saying that we will evaluate the situation at the end of the season and the reason that we chose that is that at any given time during the period of his tenure there has been a lot of support for him and sometimes there has been not so much support.

“We as a board have to take a very objective view and not be kind of swayed by the last result, whether it is positive or negative.

“Certainly the weekend wasn’t a good weekend for us. I was there.

“But as I said we have to be disciplined as a board and not be swayed by the emotions at any one game.

“We have to look at the big picture. We owe that to the club, that’s what we are in place to do.”

The above will stoke anger rather than stifle it and the board may be made to look even more foolish by having to tear those words up 4 days after coming out with them.

Will the incompetence and lack of leadership go on forever?  It feels like it.

AJ isn't stupid, I'm sure he realises what the ideal course of action would be and that the potential for further ugly scenes is very real. Not to mention the small matter of results and European qualification.

I think it may be that there are very few options open to them at this present moment, for several different reasons.

Probably, buster.  He could have worded it better though.  It just smacks of generic office crap that Harvard Business School expect us all to swallow.

He should've apologised to the support and said the board realise they need to do better.

This decision has convinced me now, this board in meerly marking time till the season is over, then they are gone, their tenure over. Because no board with an eye looking forwards to next season, with possible European football, would adopt such a fatalistic attitude.

I'm not really defending him, it's woefully out of touch and makes you wonder just what is going on.

The thing is, with ST renewals out there, they really need to be as frank as they can. It would have been better saying nothing than what has been reported in that article. Perhaps there was actually more said but the newspaper only give part of it.

There has been the odd rumour of a new owner but few took it seriously, including me. I suppose a theory could be developed that the board inactivity is simply a prelude to a new group taking over. It could also be suggested this is why King tried to hard to avoid his share offer and why the board needs to keep Club1872 at arms length. It’s unlikely but as plausible as most things that come out of a Ibrox these days.

I've spoken to a number of Bears that are convinced that King is going to sell up imminently. I was skeptical before but now I'm not so sure.

The line about support and not so much support during his tenure, does that pertain to in the boardroom or in the stands?

Christ, if Murty has lost the dressing room and Robertson has 'laid down the law' to the dressing room and the players feel a sense of duty and solidarity with their maligned teammates, Halliday included, God help us at Parkhead.
