David Bates might be gone but Russell Martin hopes to stay

Recommended Posts

I read it so that you might not.

Some highlights here:

  • Thinks that the manager/dof are satisfied with his contribution
  • Thinks he has done alright with 4 clean sheets out of ten
  • Is quite satisfied with his performance apart from against Hamilton

Not sure I'm persuaded.

He acknowledges that good performances are required for him to win a move.

I think we might have a higher level of performance in mind than he does.

I wonder if he would be on more or less than £7,500 per week.

I think he's a good professional -- I can't remember who said it, but in the match programme last week, he's apparently always training or in the gym. He's a good player to have around, and he does a solid job.

I don't want him in the first-team, though. We need someone better.

For all those saying Alves has been poor and that Bates has been good, there's not much between them.

Those radars suggest Alves is better.

Bates attempts to get the ball back more and makes fewer errors, but Alves wins more aerial duels and is superior in passing forward.

It would be interesting to see Martin's, but he's not played enough yet.

Martin does not fill me with any confidence. I was six rows from the front behind the goal at Motherwell. He didn’t look interested and was the stereotypical “slow as a week after in the jail”. I will b hugely disappointed if he is here after the summer. Unfortunately we are stuck with Alves for another year.
