New rules for European football competitions.

Recommended Posts

" UEFA have announced a raft of new rules for next season's European competitions concerning kick off times, substitute numbers and player registrations.

But Scottish sides will have to reach the latter stages of the Champions League and Europa Leagueto benefit from the majority of them.

Top of the list is the announcement that clubs competing in the knock out stages of both competitions will be permitted to use a fourth substitute in extra time.

The finalists of the two competitions will also be able to name TWELVE substitutes - up from the traditional seven.

And teams will also be allowed to use new signings who have already played in the tournament for their former sides - effectively ending the idea of a players being 'cup-tied'.

New kick-off times will be introduced too - including a new slot at 8pm (UK time) in the Champions League, with two games on Tuesday and two games on Wednesday kicking off at 5.55pm.

Europa League games will be split between these two kick-off times until the quarter-finals when they will all start at 8pm. The Super Cup will also kick off at 8pm.

Not really 'new' per se, but a coming together of several rules implemented throughout Europe.

The Italian Leagues have had the 12 subs for ages. The 4th sub in Extra time has been trialled too.

It's for the later stages so I don't think any Scottish club will be affected for the foreseeable  future mate.             :P

I would say both of these rules will favour big clubs with more resources.

UEFA are dreaming up new ways to discourage me from ever watching a european match.
