Refereeing Gers v Falkirk today

Recommended Posts

Almost every week the ref is too conspicuous for all the wrong reasons and I'm quite frankly sick of it.  It should be about 11 v 11 but time and time again they are making a complete hash of it, or worse (in the case of Beaton).  There was always a common 'fact' that decisions would even themselves out over the course of a season.  That's been proven wrong.

It's hit rock bottom when even the opposition know and concede it's hit rock bottom.  Copied from a Falkirk forum and this wasn't the only comment in this vein.

As expected really. They never had to get out of second gear and, with better finishing, would have racked up a few more. We were happy to play the compliant lambs to the slaughter at Ibrox role pretty much to perfection and ended up getting off relatively lightly.

Muirhead is a complete idiot and should have been sent off for giving Bates a dull one in the first half. The fact that he is captain shows how much of a rabble we currently are.

The thing is, there is no excuse for the referee not to send him off. He’s confirmed he’s seen it by giving the yellow!

The incident also highlights what we’re up against in the media as I don’t think it was even discussed in the match analysis. It’s not the first time that big decisions against us have been erased from any highlights, yet on the odd occasion we seem to get away with anything it is repeated over and over.

This past week against St.Johnstone and Falkirk gives good reason to wonder if the rules book has been re-written.

- Assault on a Rangers player by kicking out or punching: Yellow Card

Of course, the fact that Thompson produced a yellow card prevents any further consideration, far less action, by the revered Compliance Officer.

Given, however, that his name is  Conor McGillicuddy, or somesuch, and that his provenance is not that of one of Britain's hardy sons, any referral to him would be futile, anyway. Probably for the best, as he would likely sanction Bates for making some kind of bizarre sexual advance on the Fa'kirk goon.

"Clearly, Mr Bates  moved his genitalia, provocatively, in the direction of Mr Muirhead's clenched fist."

Given the two assaults on Bates in the last two games, both punished by yellow cards. I think it would be reasonable for the club to somehow publicly ask the question of the SFA wrt the rules, this week before the celtic game.
