Peter Lawwell has hit out at the SFA and told board members to have a hard look at themselves. The Celtic chief executive is unhappy with how the game's governing body have performed and insists there are problems which need fixed. Lawwell wants the board to be restructured and more responsibility given to the likes of Alloa Athletic chairman Mike Mulraney and Partick Thistle managing director Ian Maxwell, who has been linked with the chief executive job. The SFA are without a chief executive after Stewart Regan quit the role last week, while his stand-in Andrew McKinlay resigned yesterday to take up a role with Scottish Golf. And Lawwell insists more changes need to happen. Speaking to BBC Sportsound, Lawwell said: “I came off the board a couple of years ago there so from the outside looking in, clearly there are problems. “The problems appear to be significant. It seems that Stewart Regan has taken the rap for that in terms of the changes over the last couple of weeks. “I think there are others in there who have presided over the SFA for a number of years who need to have a look at themselves now as well. “I don’t think it’s worth any value in personalising but clearly there are issues which need to be addressed. “On the other hand there are positives because you have a board there with very capable people in Mike Mulraney, who represents the clubs alongside Ian Maxwell and you’ve got independent non-executives in Gary Hughes and Anna Stewart who are capable people and I think it is now time for these guys to be given their head and be given a bit more authority to understand the purpose of the SFA in the modern game. “What is actually the purpose of the SFA and how does that relate to the SPFL and the clubs? With the influence he and his cronies have had in aiding the destruction of the game in Scotland for purely selfish reasons, he is the last person from whom advice is needed. The Board will focus on corporate strategy and top-line decision-making, with the operational Professional Game Board and Non-Professional Game Board representing their respective parts of the game. These boards were created to provide greater focus in the affairs of the Professional and Non-Professional game.
