the gunslinger 3,366
I am going to put the cat amongst the pigeons and say, I don't think he is near good enough to play in Europe or take us on to the next level. Unless he will accept a 1 year contract, I would release him. We really need better players. Im with you on this pete.
der Berliner 3,975
He's a solid enough SPFL defender (for his age), but IMHO still not even ahead of Cardoso. Our first choices should be Alves, McCrorie, Cardoso, and Martin. Murty seems to like the British chaps more though, unless players do exceptionally well, e.g. Morelos and Candeias. NB: I was raving mad yesterday like on Wednesday that we constantly gave to ball to Bates to provide the long balls up the park. He is no Alves and it shows time and again. Yesterday, Goss provided an outlet, but was (obviously) harrassed by their midfielders. Edited February 4, 2018 by der Berliner
johnnyk 158
We've been crying out for a big defender who is commanding in the air, he won most of his challenges yesterday and most of the time keeps it simple and safety first. I think the more games he gets, and hopefully with Martin helping him on his game, he will improve. He's only 21, Scottish and doing very well IMO considering the big jump up from where he has been playing, he deserves a new contract for me.

As I said a 1 year contract but I would hate him to be taking a wage for 4 years and not playing, or us paying for him to play for St Mirren or the like. He is good in the air and a reasonable man marker but going against that he is slow and once an attacker is past him he waves goodbye. He cannot pass over 10 metre's or it is to an opponent or into touch.
Gonzo79 15,299
We will always need squad players. I like Bates, he does the important things well for his age.

Bates is easily good enough for the league. I would get rid of the foreign players who are not up to scratch, first. Bates is only 21, remember.

Like I said the more he plays for us the more experience he will get at this level, he's still learning and has only played a dozen games or so and making a big step up but some of our fans seem to know more about a player than our own coaching staff and write players off straight away
Rousseau 11,228
I don't understand the logic: some seem to be saying, 'he's not going to be a complete player, so let him go'. Forgetting for a moment that every player can improve and progress, a less than complete player can still be a very good squad player; every team needs them.
Gonzo79 15,299
If we get rid of everyone who won't go on to be a Rangers great, we may as well pack it all in now. We wouldn't have a single player left. Edited February 4, 2018 by Gonzo79
