Agree Frankie, just the thought of how much we would have to pay for a replacement, should make an extension of his contract a priority.

Just a point about D. John and his cutting out of crosses, he gives his opponent on their right far too much room, he seems to tuck into the middle and is not near enough when they receive the ball. Perhaps it is a tactic by the Manager, but it is not repeated on the other side (Tavernier).

I think it is deliberate as, more often than not, Tav is the attacking full back so teams seem to play the diagonal down the side meaning the rest of the defence tend to move across one.

Candeias has had a huge impact on Tavernier. They seem to have some sort of 6th sense.

Tav improved under Pedro and has continued to improve under Murty.

I like him and he seems to be really enjoying his time up here. We need to get him tied down to a longer contract with a better salary. He deserves it.

Tav seems to have more license to attack, not least due to his understanding with Candeias. We'll have to see how Murphy and John get along with each other, but yesterday I noted that Murphy did track back when he needed to. And while we can praise Tav for his attacking displays (even though three months ago 4 out of 5 crosses were not that great), you do have to look at and praise Jack and Holt for shutting up shop behind him.

Very good article. I feel sorry for defenders sometimes because very often their reputation is at the mercy of their managers tactics. Walter Smith made Danny Wilson, Kirk Broadfoot etc look rock solid, even against the likes of Man Utd at Old Trafford. Warburton may have brought Tavernier to Rangers but he was also at fault for making him look very poor defensively.

Tierney's stats are surprisingly bad. Even with a high score for duels % it's almost as though he avoids them with how low his duels per 90 score is. To be fair it could be that wingers go for deeper crosses against him rather than trying to beat him, that would also explain the low cross blocking score.
