KRIS COMMONS: Rangers don’t have the money to hire Michael O’Neill or Derek McInnes

Ex-Celtic star Kris Commons claims Rangers don’t have the money to appoint Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes or Scotland target Michael O’Neill as new manager.

The Dons gaffer remains the Ibrox board’s No1 target as the club’s search for Pedro Caixinha’s replacement continues.

KRIS COMMONS claims Rangers don’t have the money to hire Michael O’Neill or Derek McInnes as Pedro Caixinha’s replacement.

The Aberdeen gaffer remains the Ibrox board’s No1 target as their search for a new manager continues, with Graeme Murty in caretaker charge for the second time this year.

We told this week how Gers were monitoring the future of Northern Ireland’s O’Neill, today the subject of an approach from the SFA about taking the Scotland hot seat.

But speaking on BBC Sportsound, the former Celtic star was asked about the possibility of the former Hibs star ending up in Govan.

Commons said: “I don’t think they can afford him.”

Ayr United boss and ex-Rangers midfielder Ian McCall said he was certain McInnes – and not O’Neill – was the club’s top target.

McCall said: “I think he’s nailed on.“I understand the board taking their time because it’s really important – Celtic have won six titles in a row.”

Commons added: “It’s down to resources.“And I don’t think the resources or money are there to offer a top-class manager the money they’d get elsewhere.”

Last week the Light Blues warned anxious fans they were no closer to finding Caixinha’s successor.

But it’s believed Gers are prepared to meet the Dons’ compensation demands after McInnes, 46, penned a new three-year deal in the summer.

Stokes appears to be able to do anything he wants to and get away with it. We all know what he did to Tavernier. The following from a recent match against Dundee.

“He punched him in the balls,” said an infuriated McCann of Anthony Stokes after the Hibs striker became involved in a second-half altercation with Dundee defender Jack Hendry. “Fourth official can see it, he says he sees it. Then [referee] John Beaton gives a yellow card and then a yellow card to my player.

John Beaton says he’s gone on the information he’s been given. Well, that information was the player has been struck by another player, and he’s not deemed it violent conduct, he’s deemed it aggressive behaviour. It doesn’t take a lot for it to be painful when you’re clipped in the balls, and that’s a closed fist.”

Hubz must absolutely love it whenever Beaton is officiating. Anything goes and if the opposition complain about being thrown to the ground or getting a punch in the balls they will get a booking.
