RANGERS star James Tavernier’s brother Marcus is quickly making a name for himself in England after blasting a derby winner for Middlesbrough.

Teen sensation Marcus became Boro’s third youngest league goalscorer this century after finding the net in the 1-0 win over crisis-hit Sunderland.

Stewart Downing caught the Black Cats’ backline out with a superb reverse ball to Marcus Braithwaite.

And the Dane crossed for Tavernier, who beat Billy Jones at the near post to fire home after just six minutes.

It proved to be the only goal of the game as the Premier League promotion chasers made it four wins in a row against their North East rivals – the first time they have managed that since 2003.

For Tavernier, it allowed him to put down another marker as he looks to keep his place on the left flank ahead of Downing and ex-Motherwell star Marvin Johnson.

The 18-year-old has caught the eye since making his senior debut against Scunthorpe back in August.

Just days after bagging a hat-trick for the Under-23s, Tavernier grabbed an assist as Boro cruised to a 3-0 EFL Cup win.

Weeks later Tav impressed again as he claimed another assist against Aston Villa, before netting his first top team goal in the 3-1 defeat to Bournemouth.

After shining in the cup, his rapid progress was rewarded when boss Garry Monk handed him his first league start in the 2-0 win over Reading.

The youngster did enough to keep his place in last week’s 3-1 victory over Hull City before endearing himself to the Riverside faithful with a Tees-Wear derby winner.

Tavernier’s stunning display against Sunderland also earned praise from experienced team-mate Downing, who said:*“He’s riding*high at the moment and playing with freedom in a winning side.

“But not only has he got a derby goal, again he’s worked hard for the team.“We’ve got three big wins now*and it’s great to see for the fans.”
