Ongoing new manager discussion and speculation

Recommended Posts

Borussia Dortmund have sacked manager Peter Bosz after seven months in charge and appointed former Cologne boss Peter Stoger until the end of the season.

Bosz arrived in the summer after guiding Ajax to the final of the Europa League but leaves with Dortmund seventh in the Bundesliga.

They will enter the Europa League in February after finishing third in their Champions League group behind Real Madrid and Tottenham.

Stoger was sacked by Cologne last week.

Cologne are bottom of the table and have not won a game in the league all season, but finished fifth last term having been promoted under Stoger.

The 51-year-old Austrian described his new job as "the opportunity of a lifetime".

"Last night, in a conversation with Peter Bosz, we decided that we would release him with immediate effect," said Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke.

"We parted on the best of terms and on behalf of all Borussia I would like to thank Peter Bosz. We still consider him a great coach and person."

Dortmund have failed to win a league game since September and were beaten 2-1 at home by Werder Bremen on Saturday.

Now there would be a journey.

Wasn't it Aberdeen who got some financial backing from someone Stateside?

Bit bizarre thing of Dortmund BTW. Sacking your own coach (perhaps some dressing room unrest?) and name one who has seen Cologne rooted at the bottom of the table (despite some gutsy performances in the EL) ...

Bosz ... well, he had some success of late ....

Managerial stations:

2000–2002 AGOVV Apeldoorn

2002–2003 De Graafschap

2004–2006 Heracles Almelo

2010–2013 Heracles Almelo

2013–2016 Vitesse Arnheim

2016 Maccabi Tel Aviv

2016–2017 Ajax Amsterdam

2017 Borussia Dortmund

Came 2nd with Ajax in 2016/17 and reached the Europa League Final with them.

Thomas Tuchel is still without a job and left Dortmund despite being one of their best managers in history. Both, Bosz and Tuchel would know all about the pressures that come with the job, as Dortmund is quite demanding a place to be.

I really think Tuchel is out of our reach, he must be looking for a top 4 job in Germany, France, Italy, England or Spain. But why shouldnt we approach him and you never know. use the million we were going to squander on McInnes to pay him.

Fans keep says such & such is out of our league, not possible etc.....everyone thought that about the speculation of Rodgers. If they look like a good fit, you approach them, let THEM decided if they are interested & can structure a suitable deal.

You can say that and whilst it sounds fair enough, it's not actually going to get what would be perceived as a decent result.

The gap between perception and reality is mirroring the gap between expectation levels and resources available.

but....you never know until you ask.

I've always said through out this, they need to identify the best candidate possible 1st & foremost. Then approach them to see if they are interested in the job. Then & only then, should money come into the equation.

From the outside, it looks to be money is the driving factor, then we see who will work for what we're paying - chances are, that WILL NOT result in the best possible candidate.
