Ongoing new manager discussion and speculation

Recommended Posts

IMHO, we still have some weeks ahead before things might get interesting, as Murty will sure manage to prepare us for Dundee and Hamilton. Whether or not the double-header against Aberdeen is a good "baptism of fire" for any new coach remains to be seen. I'd actually say that it wouldn't be too bad if Murty navigates these games too, as any potential loss won't fall back on him (not least fan- and media-wise) as on any new gaffer. Of course, a double win may actually push his chances up quite a bit ...

" Charlie Adam has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 10th November, that he’s hearing that Glasgow Rangers are struggling to agree a compensation package with Aberdeen for Derek McInnes.

Rangers want McInnes to take over at Ibrox, as they search for Pedro Caixinha’s replacement.

The Scottish Sun had suggested that Rangers would reach a deal with Aberdeen this week, as they were willing to pay compensation to land McInnes.

However, Adam has said that Rangers are struggling to finance a deal for McInnes, and he has urged the board at Ibrox to take action sooner rather than later.

“I’m hearing that McInnes is close, but compensation is an issue,” Adam said.

“But they have to make a statement. They have the perfect time over the international break to sort it out. The more the dilly and dally over it, I’m not sure what will happen. I think it will come down to finances.

“The board need to make an appointment. It’s getting embarrassing.”

Another bone idle lazy bastard wakes up and has a go at Rangers.

Right enough, I can see all sides making sure Charlie Adam is kept abreast of developments

Steve McClaren tells Rangers he's their man by sending them his CV

Exclusive by Neil Cameron

STEVE McCLAREN, the former England manager, has made a major play to become Rangers’ next boss by this week asking his representatives to send his CV to the Ibrox club’s board.

We understand McClaren, currently working as an advisor for Israeli club Maccabi Tel-Aviv, believes the job in Glasgow would be perfect for him in a bid to re-establish his reputation in British football after a personally bruising few years which has seen his stock as a top-level coach fall.

And it has been made clear to the powers-that-be inside at Rangers that he would be willing to work under their constraints in terms of his own wage and the transfer kitty, which will be far lower than anything he experienced in England.

And unlike in the case of Aberdeen's Derek McInnes, in terms of compensation, Maccabi would not be looking for a lot if anything at all.

Mark Allen, Rangers’ Director of Football, knows the former Newcastle United and Middlesbrough manager from old, although reports that this would make the 56-year-old the favourite are, for the moment, wide of the mark.

This is an intriguing development in the saga and while the name of McClaren, which was first linked to the job last weekend, will not excite too many Rangers, his reputation as coach could well get him an interview at the very least.

For all that the “Wally in the Brolly” image from his disappointing spell as England manager has stuck, and his time at Newcastle saw the club relegated, Sir Alex Ferguson’s former assistant has enjoyed genuine success during his managerial career.

He won the League Cup with Middlesbrough in 2004, still that club’s only major honour, and also led them to the UEFA Cup final two seasons later. He also took them to seventh in the Premier League, which remains their highest ever finish.

McClaren was also first-team coach at Manchester United during their historic treble season of 1998/99 and won the Dutch League in 2010 at FC Twente.

Rangers had hoped to*name a replacement for Pedro Caixinha during this international break; however, as the days go on without an announcement, it is becoming increasingly likely Graeme Murty will still be in charge for the visit to Hamilton in eight days’ time.

Wrong, Hamilton come to us. The most simple of facts, so easily checked, but lazy, incompetent journalism is all we seem to get in Scotland these days. How can you take any of the previous article as accurate when the easiest fact to get right, our next fixture, they get wrong. Sighs.

If McInnes is going to be the one I would prefer him in place before the sheep games. Not only would they be thrown into some disarray by his departure if anybody knows how to beat their current team it's obviously him.
