Union Bears statement on Sundays policing

Recommended Posts

After Sunday's disgraceful events, the Union Bears would like to express our deep concern at the behaviour and heavy-handed actions of Police Scotland at Hampden before kick-off. The conduct of Police Scotland at football games has been an on-going concern for a number of years and continues to harm Scottish Football and the fan experience. However, the incident on Sunday was a particularly low point as police tactics were deliberately confrontational and took a physical approach to seize a message banner.

It is clear that Police Scotland believe their behaviour is beyond reproach and it is of no surprise as incidents like Sunday continue to happen with no change and no consequences. This behaviour has been part of a wider attack on the rights of football fans in Scotland, that got increasingly worse since the introduction of the Offensive Behaviour at Football Act. In the past we have done what we can to highlight this issue and we feel it is paramount to Scottish Football that bully tactics and physical attacks on fans stop. We would like to urge everybody in Scotland to stand with us against this type of policing that fans suffer from every year.

All Rangers fans should stand together and develop more of a siege mentality. The SFA, the Police, all the other clubs and pretty much every Scottish politician hates us and wants to keep us down.

Sadly, we'll probably just stick to fighting amongst ourselves.
