TRO: Keith Jackson and The Ratio

Recommended Posts

I also have a horrible noise in my ears. They call it the nagging wife syndrome.:D

Sorry guy's I don't want to make light of your illness but I couldn't resist it.

My last job was as a safety officer and I sent people off site for not wearing proper protection. If they could see how I work at home they would be totally shocked. I will say though after having metal splinters removed from my eyes I now always have safety glasses on for anything that can damage my eyes. I even wear safety glasses for cutting the grass but that is because I was stung twice around my eyes after I probably upset some insects with nests in the ground.

Went right off topic, but what the hell :)

Years ago I was fitting a rear panel blackout thing to my sons vauxhall cav using a drill to create fixing points, I got what I thought was something blowing in my left eye. Next day my eye was 'a bit sore' next day it was annoying me to the extent had to go to my doctor about it (in those days you could make an appointment with your doctor and get seen in a matter of hours) Doc referred me to Stobhill hospital for specialist attention...this Chinese doctor took a pair of tweezers to my eye to pick out a metal shard millimetres from my pupil...no big deal except I lost the sight in my right eye when I was 12 years old. Always wear eye protection I say when doing something with machinery of sorts.

Anyway...what did bitter hater Kieth do today?

I have tinnitus too mate, drives me round the bend! Constant ringing in my ears, horrible.

Sorry about that mate, i actually think as i get older i'm losing a bit of my hearing, least that's what the wife says. i get a bit of buzzing now and again, i work with a petrol motor on most days within earshot, i only lately started wearing ear defenders.

As I've got older I've reverted to wearing ear defenders for using the likes of the lawn mower, car polisher, drill and even the vacuum cleaner in the house. The 'ringing' in my ears is due to the abuse they got listening to Deep Purple and Steely Dan on max volume during my misspent youth.

That’s interesting bearman as whenever I have been around loud noise it gets worse (after the Football or cinema for eg). Mine is a side effect of some medication I take (legal medication I should add lol). Some days better than others?

I get a sore head when Chris Sutton does co-commentary on our matches. I also suffer from anxiety issues thinking about Chris McLaughlin or Neil Lennon coming on the TV unexpectedly (extreme ugliness stresses me out).

It looks like a childish, we/I don't like you, piece initially. However its more subtle than that. What it is saying is that people do not agree with Jackson. It does that by discussing the Ratio. The way Twitter works is that to reply means to disagree because when a tweet is good, there are simple, elegant tools for expressing your appreciation via the like and re-tweet buttons. The Ratio in this case is as good a metric to dissect a writers credibility as any. That is what the articles aim is and treating it as some sort of journalists handbags at dawn is a mistake.

I think we all got that, as it is hardly subtle - it is the whole point of the article. It's still a crap article though and analysing a tabloid journalists's twitter feedback ratio does not seem to me to be a good use of TRO's time and the use of metrics is still used to make a personal point tinged with pettiness. It's not as though we've not got multifarious pressing concerns that it could be addressing instead.

PS It would have made a good post here, though.

THE CLUB... THE BOARD... DAVE KING.... CLUB1872... WHOEVER... needs to make a statement!

Pick any of those headers on any given day and you'll see them plastered across countless Rangers forums and blog spaces the internet over. I know I certainly see them written by Rangers fans on a regular basis. Then when any of the above does make a statement or stands up for the fans it seems we Rangers supporters would prefer a return to dignified silence. Why is that? Is it because we cant decide on the colour of shite between us or is it simply a reactionary response to the media constant sneering or ripping apart any official Club statement? The truth is its a bit of both but its mainly that we have unreasonable demands with regards to our Club. This is the 21st century and things work a little different here than what us old farts from 19 canteen are used to. Dignified silence is NOT an option here. There needs to be a counter to the constant attacks that our club and supporters receive in the Scottish main stream media. We cant do that via the methods we might have used in the past, as I said above, whenever that has been attempted anything said is immediate met with a wall of derision. What is the answer to this situation in this day and age? Well part of the answer to this issue is to use the internet and particularly things like, citizen or independent journalism, to promote a positive image and get whatever message out there to act as a counter point. I have no connexion to, nor do I write for TRO. However I do have experience using the, independent journalism aspect of the blog sphere to create a publication which does act as a counter voice to a hostile media. In that particular case which is far removed from this real world example, being set in an imaginary universe, the negative press and constant derision was no less real! DB highlighted in a post, via his translation of another language, just how words, and phrases are inserted into context, cackhandedly slipped into an article to be used by journalists to colour the argument and build resentment against us and our Club. That message is enforced and reinforced at every opportunity by this hostile media which has increased the frequency of attack consistently to a point where we as Rangers fans expect it every day. It is insidious and has crept into common conversation. There is no getting away from it. We cant afford to indulge in Ostrich moments where we can stand by and let it pass. It needs to be countered!

What is it that you (the Rangers fan) want? What is more important than protecting the reputation of our community and the stature of our great club? I do not care one iota if there is a hint of personal vendetta in a piece of this nature. It should be personal because it IS personal and it should be personal to any Rangers supporter reading it. Its time to roll the sleeves up and get on with it. The club and board are distanced enough from this publication where they can let it operate here without the loss of face or dignity. Setting the agenda and countering these piss ants is what the remit of TRO is and it is doing exactly what it says on the tin!
