Celtic fan alleged to have been in "f*** Lee Rigby" video resigns from job

TWO CELTIC fans involved in the sickening Lee Rigby chant during a friendly match against Sunderland have been identified by police.

Northumbria officers say they have now discovered the identity of two people responsible for the vile video which emerged on social media in July.

In the 50 second clip, a group of men, some wearing Celtic strips, can be heard clearly singing "f*** Lee Rigby, he won't be f***ing drumming anymore" as they walk down the street.

It is thought to have been filmed on Sunderland's Bridge Street ahead of the friendly match on July 29.

The pre-season game marked 20 years since the opening of the city's Stadium of Light and 50 years since Celtic won the European Cup.

However trouble broke out between fans from both sides ahead of the game, with Celtic fans attacking a shop where former English Defence League leader Tommy Robinson was.

Celtic fans were also injured during the scuffle, with footage emerging of a man wearing a Celtic top lying bleeding on the ground.

Lee Rigby, a drummer and machine-gunner in the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers was murdered in May 2013 at the age of 25.

The savage attack saw him hacked to death near his army barracks in London by Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale, who have been imprisoned for life.

The Evening Times can also reveal one of the men alleged to have been involved in the video has resigned from his job at a city housing association.

Stephen Jones, who worked for Glasgow Housing Association, had been suspended while the firm investigated claims he appeared in the sickening film.

He resigned from his job in the company's environmental team before the investigation could be concluded.

A source at the firm told the Evening Times they were "ashamed" and added: "We all have family in the army and this is disgraceful."

Northumbria police spokeswoman said: "We have identified those responsible and are making arrangements to speak to two people."
