Rio Fredinand to launch pro boxing career

Recommended Posts

I have much respect for Ferdinand. He has handled single parenting remarkably well since the untimely passing of his wife.

He has kept himself in great shape too as he works out daily - not sure that boxing is a good move for him but I guess only time will tell. He doesn't need the money so maybe this is something he always fancied growing up, but football took precedence.

Good luck to him I say.

Nobody can just decide to be a professional boxer, you need to have a natural talent for it and becoming a professional boxer at 38???

He could be seriously hurt for the sake of what I suspect to be reality TV nonsense he has been talked into by people more interested in viewing figures than his welfare.

He's his own man and makes his own decisions - I doubt anyone actually had to talk him into it.

At his age its pretty unlikely that he'll be able to go any distance because in order for him to compete at a decent level he'll need to be extremely mobile. I notice instantly that he has fairly thin ankles which normally suggests that he wont be able to take the hits with a fighter who can punch his weight.
