McCoist : Sellik Are Light Years Ahead Of Rangers

Recommended Posts

Pedro Caixinha’s Glasgow Rangers will not catch Old Firm rivals Celtic this season, says former Ibrox manager Ally McCoist.

Ally McCoist said on The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Friday morning (broadcast from 6am, September 1, 2017) that Rangers are light years behind Old Firm rivals Celtic.

The former Rangers striker and manager has seen progress in the current team under boss Pedro Caixinha, but the 54-year-old does not expect the Gers to catch Celtic this season.

McCoist said on The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Friday morning (broadcast from 6am, September 1, 2017): “I have seen Rangers a couple of times this season.

"Definitely there is progress, of that there is no doubt, but in terms of catching Celtic absolutely not enough progress, nowhere near it. Celtic look definitely light years ahead.”

Celtic have the strongest squad in Scotland, and it will be a shock if the Bhoys do not win the Scottish Premiership title this season.

In fact, the Glasgow giants could even win the league title this campaign without losing a single match, just as they did last season.

During the 2016-17 campaign, Brendan Rodgers’s side won the Scottish Premiership, the Scottish League Cup and the Scottish Cup.

Pedro Caixinha's Rangers, though, do have a good squad, and the Ibrox outfit should be confident of clinching the runners-up spot.

Celtic are second in the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 10 points from four matches, while Rangers are currently fifth in the standings with seven points from four games.

This season isn't (realistically) about winning the league. It's about closing that points gap between us & Ceptic, and hopefully giving them a scare along the way.

Ceptic are NOT (IMHO), the wonderful team that the media make out....it's just that the other teams in the league are unable to trouble them too much over a sustained period. They do have some good players, just the world beaters there made out to be.

Hopefully with the new intake of players this summer, we will be in a better position to challenge them, but more importantly we're better placed to take the vast majority of points of the other teams. If we do that, we'll remain in touch of them.

So is everyone just lining up to have a kick at Ally for daring to speak the truth or do you actually disagree with what he said? Because if anyone doesn't think Celtic are light years ahead of us, both on and off the park, I'd be very surprised.

It's a shame he didn't admit his own management was a contributory factor in our current status.

I'd look the other way if I passed McCoist in the street.

Getting a fucken grip of yourself. McCoist is our club's record overall scorer, our top league scorer, our top league cup scorer and our top European scorer and has represented our club more times than any other human being except two. He's in our hall of fame, he's in the Scottish football hall of fame and he's in the the Scottish sport hall of fame. He represented his country 69 times and scored 19 goals. Whatever his shortcomings as a manager he helped hold our club together during some very difficult times. It's harder to think of someone more fitting of the term 'legend'.

But hey, you turn the other way in the street if you want.
