[FT] Ross County 1 - 3 Rangers (Morelos 31, 41; Herrera 89)

Recommended Posts

It's annoying that Herrera missed out last week as I think he'd have been an ideal sub in terms of how the game played out.

In that sense, I'm not always sure we should start him but, given Miller's poor game last week, I think we do need something different on Sunday.

Yes - at home especially I expect Ross County to want to try and impose a physical challenge... in the few games so far, teams have managed to knock us off our stride and break up our play and get a foothold. I really think we need to start imposing ourselves from the first minute to try and put this to bed. And thats where Herrera comes in for me.

Yeah, that stat can be debated but the author make specific reference to the league where we've only won 1 out of 3 so far.

Last season he won 6 out of the 10 league games he was in charge of so that's a total of 7/13 which is just above 50%.

Given the uncertainty, I've amended the post but I guess the overall point of his record not being good enough still stands though it's very early to make such judgements IMO.

Fair enough, I wasn't debating the manager's record one way or another, nor just being pedantic - it's a public article, if the stats are wrong in the first paragraph, others will notice and so it could affect how it is seen. It was just a heads up... :)

No matter how I look at the following, I can't reconcile it:

"Rangers have not set the world alight with their start to the season. Having already played six competitive matches so far, the ‘Gers have only registered two wins this campaign."

I'd start Herrera (if fully fit) in place of Miller - Herrera & Morelos are supposed to be our main strike force moving forward....they need to play together as often as possible.

By all means have Miller on the bench to come on later in the game (if required).

I notice their first choice left back was sent off last week (and he played well against us last season) so hopefully that will help us in wide areas as well.

I'm with Calscot on this. If the opening paragraph says two wins out of 6 when it is clearly 3 wins out of six, I dont see the point of reading any further. Pedro is in bad enough trouble without having his slender home victory against the Luxembourg giants erased from this seasons stats!

Unless things don't start improving Pedro will be gone soon.

I simply don't understand the optimism some seem to have just now. Results have generally been poor since Pedro took over & his major signings of Pena & Herrera don't look like being successful at a time when we cannot afford flops like these for the money we paid.

And are we going to see Kenny Miller strutting around the MF again on Sunday ? For Pedro's sake I genuinely hope not.

The more eagle-eyed among you will have noticed the style of this preview is a wee bit different. As well as containing links for SEO purposes, the text was provided by our advertising partner and edited by myself. This is a wee trial to see how well it performs.

FWIW, we get a lot of sponsored content offers for the main site and I almost always turn them down as they tend to be artificial and not always relevant. As such, I've been working with one of our ad partners to try and make these appear more natural whilst maintaining a decent level of quality to make them worthy of match preview discussion.

I think the above works OK so we'll see how it goes.

Aside from the errors in the first paragraph which have already been mentioned, I really dont like this article at all. I could tell right away you hadnt written it as it just doesnt read like a normal Gersnet preview, the quality of which is usually extraordinarily good for volunteers and brings great credit to this board.

Saying we have a fantastic record against Ross County when we didnt manage a single victory in 3 attempts last season, is pushing credibility a bit. I'm dreading the trip up on Sunday because in my mind we always get a tough game against them.

To say that Dundee's win was impressive is not right either IMO. This was Murty's first (or second - cant remember) game and we were in absolute disarray. We gifted them their goals and we missed a lot of chances as usual. Just about anybody was going to beat us at that time.

I appreciate it is not always easy to get contributors to do these previews, and to maintain the high quality readers are used to, but IMO I dont think this is the way to go.

The optimism is just part of being a supporter! Every week we are crap and by the time the next game comes along we have managed to talk ourselves into being a good team again, then the cycle repeats! I think this is the same at most clubs and is what makes football such a good supporter sport.

FWIW I dont think Herrera has done much wrong other than get injured, and i think there may be some talent there, but I do agree that a lot of his signings dont look too good, Cardoso, Candieas, Dalcio, have not impressed me to date and have to show a lot more if they are to become important members of a winning side.

That was my mistake as editor.

I can understand why people wouldn't immediately like the style and we'll keep working on that. This isn't likely to be a regular thing so I'm sure the usual quality of preview will be maintained going forward.
