Premier League 17/18

He obviously lost the dressing room in the last week with comments. But its tough for the chairman - stick with a good manager and europa nightmare or twist and bring in who?

Full credit to Burnley. Why is Southgate manager of England with his comments when someone like Dyche is better! Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool and Everton away and taken 8 points! Well done.

Dyche is an excellent manager. Highly under-rated.

Koeman gets the kiss of life/death/something more serious from the owner, per today's Guardian:

Everton’s Farhad Moshiri: Ronald Koeman has my total support

• Dutchman handed vote of confidence after Sunday’s home defeat by Burnley

• Majority shareholder Moshiri: We have great fans and they deserve better

Everton’s major shareholder, Farhad Moshiri, has said the club’s fans “deserve better” than this season’s miserable return but insisted Ronald Koeman retains his total support.

The Everton manager has attracted fierce criticism this season following a series of ineffective performances and poor results. Sunday’s defeat by Burnley at Goodison Park was the team’s fifth in eight matches in all competitions and left a club that spent almost £140m in the summer languishing two points above the relegation zone.

Koeman claimed it was wrong to question his future on Sunday as his players continue to show commitment, while dismissing the argument that heavy investment should have brought greater improvement.

In a statement released to the Sky Sports presenter Jim White, Moshiri cited a demanding fixture list and European exertions as factors in Everton’s weak run of form and he insisted any pressure on Koeman was not coming from the boardroom.

“We are in a bad moment,” he said. “But we have played the four title contenders, three away. Today was an unexpected loss. The four pre-qualifying Uefa games and two group games on Thursdays haven’t helped. There is mental and physical fatigue and seven injuries. These are early days and Koeman has my total support. We have great fans and they deserve better. We know the honest and objective expectations of our supporters and will not let them down.”

The failure to adequately replace Romelu Lukaku in the summer has cost Everton, who have scored only four Premier League goals this season – three fewer than the Belgium international has managed for Manchester United.

However, Koeman’s team and formation selections have also contributed to a woeful start, with the manager struggling to find a solution to the lack of pace, threat and balance in the ranks. The Everton manager dropped Wayne Rooney to the bench for the first time in the Premier League against Burnley as he gave Oumar Niasse, who he told to leave the club last summer, his first start.

However, it was only after Rooney’s introduction that Everton exerted pressure on Sean Dyche’s well-organised and now sixth-placed team.

Everton lost their goal machine. A guy who is currently the top scorer in the league and is a major part of the reason Man U are sitting equal top. Think where Spurs would be if they lost Kane who has 11 goals so far with 6 of them coming in the league while his nearest contender in the team is Dele Alli with 3 in all competitons.

Agreed. However, one very large reason Everton is struggling is because, having sold their goal machine to Man U.... they made a number of subsequent signings, for a TON of money.... and not one of them was a "9". Koeman went out and signed something like three "10"s - so he has plenty of attacking midfielders... with nobody to actually score.

If he felt Rooney could still be his goalscorer then he was sadly mistaken.

With hindsight he has probably done what Spurs did a few years ago when they sold Bale and bought a load of players and hasnt fit them in.

At the time I said Everton was a sideways step from Southampton - Southampton have potential and a great set up. Everton are just a club steep in old history yet done nothing for 20-30 years.

They are unlucky with no Coleman and Bolasie on the right hand side, that would improve any team but they should have signed a Carroll, Sturridge, Hernandez, Giroud or someone to grab them a goal.
