Lovenkrands returns

Recommended Posts

Rangers hero Peter Lovenkrands has returned to the club as academy coach.

The Dane built a reputation as a cult hero over six season at Ibrox, racking up nearly 200 games, scoring more than 50 times. Following a move to Schalke 04 and spells at Newcastle United and Birmingham City the 37-year-old returns to Ibrox to work with the club’s under-15 side.

He expressed his delight on his Instagram page saying “Feels good wearing @rangersfc badge again! First day of coaching today”, while being offered congratulations from former Rangers striker Michael Mols.

He has been joined on the academy coaching staff by former Rangers striker Andy Little who currently plays for Stirling Albion.

Lovenkrands will be remembered most by the Ibrox faithful for his winning goal in the 2002 Scottish Cup final against Celtic as well as a number of big European strikes, playing either up front or from the left-wing. His brother Tommy had a spell with St Johnstone.

Fairly sure I'd seen him doing a twitter Q&A in the last few weeks. Has he perhaps taken up a new role this week?

He started as one of the new youth coaches at the Academy.
