French football player Emmanuel Françoise's urine sample taken for the May 14 F91 Dudelange-CS Fola Esch championship game tested positive to a banned substance, the Luxembourgish anti-doping agency (ALAD) said on Thursday.

The CS Fola Esch player, who signed with the Progrès Niederkorn for the coming season, has been informed of the results by the ALAD.

Whether, or for how long, the 30-year-old player will be banned is not yet known.*

ALAD said it would notify the disciplinary council against doping, adding that other checks carried out on the day of the game came back negative.*

Nothing to do with what we deserve or don't deserve. Was this guy eligible to play ?

I don't think he was. He has a chronic condition and therefore requires a theraputic exemption certificate to be issued by UEFA before he plays in a European game. He didn't have one. The application for exemption should detail his condition and show various medical tests that prove he needs the prohibited drugs. This is what they are now doing retrospectively. It would seem there is a case to answer but UEFA will no doubt want a quick turnaround as the next round is next week. It would seem you can take the prohibited drug if it is an emergency but you then still have to go through the exemption process. They didn't do it. Perhaps they did not understand the rules and don't have full time administrators but if he is ineligible UEFA would have to offer Rangers the tie.

Either UEFA say you don't have the exemption certificate you are out. Or they accept it retrospectively on the basis he used it in an emergency and now uses a non/prohibited substance. It looks highly suspicious that they have knowingly fielded an ineligible player and have knowingly not followed the correct procedure.

But there is nothing bar that and after that. You would assume that club, federation and that authority would have said something thereafter?

Is Wilkins back on the beer ?

Whilst I have great respect for him as both a player and a coach his way of thinking is absolutely prehistoric.

How many English teams succeed in Europe or in their league competition with "Brits, Brits all the way" ?? Answer, zero.

We aren't in the Championship, we are in the top flight and (were) in Europe - so we need better than just Brits in the team and squad.

His analysis is terrible.

You find out loads out there, one even said that this result can't be used to hammer the Scottish league and its clubs, but must be taken isolated ... "as Scottish football is not to blame whether Candeias delivers a cross into the box or not". For, as we all know, quite a few good and solid Scottish teams had a good record in Europe against classy sides ...

It will go on a week or two, maybe a month. Perhaps the Yahoos and some others will use it during the season, but much like the pains of tier 4 to 2 will be history in due course.

And once PC will deliver the first trophy, the smug smiles on their faces will vanish.

You'd almost think his comments are satirical and he sounds like a total plonker there. Teams of British players go out every year at the first hurdle in Europe. The performance of foreign clubs and nations immediately proves he's speaking nonsense.
