Just not sure they'd have the all-round game required of a modern striker. Mind you, Gary Lineker--a great poacher of goals--said he loved playing as part of a three under Cruyff at Barca. But that said, regardless of whether you can accommodate a classic poacher in the modern game, our conversion rate has been absolutely, unforgivably, utterly fucking abysmal. but has the game REALLY changed??? The main role of a striker is to score goals is it not??? they are not there to defend or to link play in midfield....they score goals & that's what wins games. If the other players do their jobs, then there is no need for anyone to be "multi-functional".
