Manchester City Academy Director Mark Allen has been appointed as the new Director of Football at Rangers. Allen, who has been with City since Sheikh Mansour’s takeover in 2008, has been responsible for the Premier League side’s academy and is highly thought of down south. With overall control of the day-to-day operations at the City Football Academy, Allen has overseen a detailed overhaul of the development side of operations at the Citizens and has implemented a detailed, long-term, philosophy based on a 4-3-3 formation and a fixed coaching syllabus to ensure players get the best coaching and development possible.

 

In recent years, City’s Academy has been one of the most successful in England and is starting to bear fruit for Pep Guardiola’s first team.

 

Allen had a short playing career, coming through at Swindon Town, before heading to the US where he undertook a business and accountancy degree and returning to the UK aged 24. After that, a 13-year stint as Managing Director of MTV’s broadcast division gave him a strong understanding of what it required, from a business perspective, at one of the biggest entertainment brands on the planet. Now aged 54, Allen is set to take control of the day-to-day football operations at Ibrox as the club’s board of directors look to push the club to the next level.

... who knows. I for one prefer us being flexible with tactics and formations, pending on players available, opposition and playing surface.

 

As for the DoF ... not sure whether to get excited about this, as we survived through the decades and claimed 54 league titles without one. We shall see how this works out.

Manchester City Academy chief Mark Allen set to become Director of Football at Rangers

MANCHESTER CITY youth chief Mark Allen is set to take the Rangers reins and become the new Director of Football at Ibrox.

 

SportTimes understands Allen is the man that the Gers board have chosen to head up their football operation as they finalise their off-field structure.

 

Allen has been Academy Director at City since Sheikh Mansour bought the club and has overseen a series of successes at youth level in recent years.

 

The official line from Rangers on Wednesday evening was that they would ‘not comment on speculation’ but it is believed that Allen is now poised to take up a key position at Ibrox.

 

After bringing the curtain down on his playing career with Swindon Town in the early 80s, Allen spent four years at the United States University in San Diego on a Business Administration with Accounting course.

 

He would return to the game with City eight years ago after spells as Managing Director of Broadcast Services with MTV Europe and as a Managing Director with Deluxe Digital London.

 

City have invested heavily in their youth structure over the last few years, with Allen at the heart of their plans to produce their own stars of the future.

 

Now he will be tasked with implementing his ideas at Ibrox and will work closely with boss Pedro Caixinha, Head of Academy Craig Mulholland and the Light Blues board as Rangers look to build for a brighter future on and off the park.

I prefer that too. Aside from everything you mentioned it keeps the opposition guessing before and potentially even during matches if we can switch formation mid game.
