Will Bruno Alves Play Tonight?

Recommended Posts

Watched the game but haven't learned much as he cruised through it with Portugal well on top throughout. I'm happy enough that if he is playing in a good side at that level, he is going to be miles and miles ahead of the Wilson/Kiernan partnership that I think I will still be having nightmares about a decade from now.

I thought he was a bit clumsy, but TB's right, he cruised it so we haven't learned much. If anything, I learned he's very good in the air, but that was known anyway. Everything that came near him in the air was 'blootered' back up the pitch; not something we've had in a while.

It was nice to see a Rangers player in a top international side, playing alongside Ronaldo.

Veteran Rangers stopper Bruno Alves insists he'll never retire from international duty after winning 90th Portugal cap

The defender helped his country cruise to a 3-0 win in Riga against Latvia, making his 90th appearance at the age of 35.

New Rangers star Bruno Alves insists he will never retire for Portugal after winning his 90th cap at the age of 35. The veteran stopper helped his country cruise to a 3-0 win in Riga against Latvia.

He started because of an injury to Real Madrid bruiser Pepe and helped Portugal keep a clean sheet as they took another step forward in their bid to reach the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

And the new Ibrox defender, who won Euro 2016 with Portugal, insists he will never retire from playing for his country.

He said: "I am always available for Portugal. I always work hard to have these opportunities."Pepe couldn't play, but we have a big squad full of good players.

"We knew Latvia would test us and they would have chances, but we defended very well."I love playing for Portugal - that will never stop no matter what club I am at.

"I have to give my all on the pitch to honour the flag of Portugal."

Alves won his first cap ten years ago and has been a mainstay in their side since then.
