Stewart Regan insisted the SFA are in the clear over handing Rangers a European licence in 2011 – despite the evidence that came from the Craig Whyte court case.

The Whyte case may be over but the SFA are still in the firing line over the decision back in 2011 to grant Rangers a licence to play in Europe.

The court case revealed Rangers were aware of the £2.8m so-called small tax case - but it was not declared to the governing body, which could have caused an issue regarding being put forward to represent Scotland in European competition.

Regan insisted the SFA did everything in its powers at the time and UEFA have given them the all clear.

He said: “We all know if there are any further challenges to the processes which have taken place we will address those as and when they come forward.“I am not concerned by that at all, because we know we have followed every process that we had to follow in line with the guidance from UEFA and in line with the information we received by the key deadlines established.

“Our position on the process we followed in 2011 is one we are confident on.“If a licence was granted when it shouldn’t have been, is that not a concern?

“I’m not saying it’s not a concern if it was granted in error.

“What I am saying is that the procedures followed by the licensing committee, I am entirely comfortable with.“We have been through this several times, UEFA have been through it several times, UEFA have given written feedback on the process and we are comfortable with where we are.”

Regan also confirmed returning Rangers director Alastair Johnston will have to pass the fit and proper persons test before his place on the Ibrox board will be rubber stamped.

Johnston was in the Gers boardroom from 2004 to 2011 - with the last three years as chairman - and will undergo the same scrutiny as fellow former directors Paul Murray and Dave King received when they returned to the club in 2015.

Regan said: “Every director that comes through on an official return will be considered and the club themselves will have to make representation that any director doesn’t fall foul of any breaches in the articles.

“So yes is the answer, every director will be considered.”

This has been done to death. It has been proven on numerous occasions that Rangers were rightly handed a license. File under "mischief making " and "kicking Rangers when they are down ".

There are worrying lines, however:

"The SFA are still in the firing line" = by the powers that be that make up the SFA

"We all know if there are any further challenges to the processes which have taken place we will address those as and when they come forward." - They will, relentless, forever, aided by the head people in the S©FA
