Season ticket money all for the squad

Recommended Posts

The current figure is 34,700 and is already a new high, meaning there is now the realistic prospect of exceeding the record sales of more than 43,000 achieved this season. This is despite it having been a tough season following four seasons in the lower leagues.

Awesome! Well done lads and lassies!

Hang on a minute here; if the ST money is all going to be invested in the squad, where are we going to get money to run the club and pay wages week by week?

I presume that he means that it will be used to pay wages of the squad as well as transfer fees and signing on fees (apologies if you realised that already).

To put it in perspective, the 2016 accounts state that season ticket income from 37,481 tickets was £9.5m (which seems light to me). Total income was £22.2m. First team squad cost £6.4m in wages.

Obviously wages and the price of season tickets have increased but it seems that there would still be cash to pay the other running costs of the club.

I actually think that his statement that "all of our season ticket money will be invested in the football squad" is fairly meaningless.
