PEDRO Caixinha says he is looking to exploit Joe Garner’s aerial presence next season

Depressing to think Garner will be here, albeit I admire his passion and workrate. He's a ned and a serial diver, I'm afraid.

And in the unlikely event that we get close to you know who he's an easy out for the refs to show red to - and make no mistake they'll be highly pressurised into wanting that easy way out.

I would very much assume that PC talks about delivering opportunities to our strikers will eventually result in goals.

This season, on the whole, we hardly played to the strengths of our striker(s) and that needs to change. One of our main problems was that we were - IMHO - far too mobile and dynamic up front, with attackers (strikers or no) were running all over the place but hardly kept one definite position. As a result, more often than not, crosses into the box found no-one, people were doubling up in certain positions while other slots remained empty etc.. While a certain dynamic is obviously good and can draw defenses out of positions, we did not look that good overall - coupled with a lack of taking responsibility and actually shooting rather than passing the ball through 12 people over the goal-line.

Two simple but precise crosses resulted in simple, well-taken Garner goals in these last two games. THAT is something which can be build upon. Give Garner another decent striker and have people able to provide them with ammunition, and we will reap the benefits. Likewise, we need people who shoot from the edge of the box more often, something which you rarely saw this season, mostly from Dodoo, Forrester and at times McKay.

I like Garner and still think he is capable of delivering 20 goals a season. He's had a season to settle in now and if the manager is looking at exploiting his talents we may see people coming in who could compliment him and feed him what he needs.

I'm sure i saw a stat on the goals to minutes played ratio and Garner is ahead of Miller. Not necessarily a stellar endorsement, but does suggest there is more to be gained if we play Garner and also play to his strengths. For me, his two performances at Ibrox in December vs Hearts and Aberdeen showed what we can do if we set up to allow Garner to play in his physical way. Add to that his last two goals shows that he is capable of taking chances if presented opportunities.

If he can can cut out the silly fouls, bookings and play acting, I could definitely see him getting 20 goals.

In the League games Dodoo is well ahead of the pack with 188 mins per his 3 goals.

So is Forrester and Hyndman is level with Garner, which only goes to prove there are lies damned lies and statistics.

In cricketing terms a minimum number of "at bats" should be considered before applying such statistics.

Garner is two minutes better off per his 7 league goals than Miller with 10; but Miller has 7 assists to Garner just two.

On that basis and what we have seen the last two weeks Miller should be on the wing and Garner in the middle next season; but we don't want TB to have apoplexy now do we.

I think the real problem is that PC knows he can't get rid of Garner and has other priorities in terms of the money available for reinforcements, so he will have to use him as best as possible.

Oh for sure, hence why I said it wasn't necessarily a stellar endorsement...

For future reference though: "at bats" is a Baseball term. The relevant cricketing term is "innings". :champs:

Its quite amazing how out and out centre forwards can split the support like Boyd did over the years and now Garner. Im with Steve' earlier post, not a fan of Garner.
