Rangers' PR: Succulent lambs to the slaughter

What is the Darren Cooney situation?

Someone uncovered his twitter history, where there was a long timeline of historic sectarian and bigoted abuse directed at our club and support. Also his support for Republican terrorists and the usual celtic minded propaganda.

It should be pointed out that Darren Cooney is currently the Sports Editor at the Daily Record.

Further, there appears to be confusion because of the Cooney surname, many assume he is former Sellik PRO and Radio Snyde CEO, Paul Cooney's son. He is not, no relation. He is the son of former Aberdeen football journo, Bryan Cooney. Darren Cooney purports to be a Dandy Don. Certainly, he has displayed venomous hatred for our club and support.

The current Editor of the Daily Record, Murray Foote must address this situation.

But will he?

Why, who is going to pressure him to do so? We all know fine well they are bombproof and completely untouchable in the current climate. Our club must take the stance to publicly ban this paper, all its employees, and put messages up on the big screen telling the fans why and to avoid this publication at all costs. We must demand meetings with the owners, not the editor, to ensure they understand the depth of feeling about how badly biased their once proud Scottish flag-bearer publication has become. That is the only way to get something done about them.

Our club, through a succession of boards going back to Murray's takeover in 1988, have only ever been interested in how the Board are portrayed, not the club or the fans. I was hopeful that with real good bears like John Gilligan on the board that something more proactive would be done in this area, but it's just the same old dignified silence.

That's the point I was making the other day.

It's all well and good making people like McLaughlin, Spiers and Jackson persona non grata but the club need to be clear about it and list their indiscretions.

1. Put this on the website and have a media monitoring/comment section if need be.

2. Include this in mass emails.

3. Display it at the stadium and announce over the PA.

In an ideal world we should be working with the media to get our message out and criticism should be welcome as well (especially from a fans perspective). However, if newspapers or individual journalists refuse to tell the truth and/or are clearly imbalanced they should not be welcome. And if this is the case, make it clear why.

Instead we seem to do the complete opposite.

Again, as I said in the Rangers - Fake News thread, there is an obvious orchestrated pro-Celtic, anti-Rangers campaign. It is of no surprise that the head of any Sports section of a paper is "celtic minded". It is unbelievable.

Very well written and an off field topic that must be taken care of. One might add that "success makes sexy", so if Rangers start beating Celfish papers will -have to- like Rangers again because they are successful and en vogue. Then it will be important that the board does what this article suggests...
