Gaffer 1,665
I have to agree re the manager. i don't see what he brings to the table to be honest. our play has gone from 71% possession to not being able to put 3 passes together. Somebody mentioned he likes High pressure well I have seen nothing of that in the last few games. I also think he is making the same mistake as Ally in setting his team up worrying about the other team too much. When he is giving a discription of his tactics and view on the game I have no idea what he is talking about and I doubt that the players do either. As you say I hope we are wrong. I understand why you say this about the high pressure, or lack of, but I think it's just a small number of players ruining this for the team. I don't know what he can do about it though and he'll have to stick with one or two of them even into next season, unless he is a magician when it comes to convincing other teams to take these players from us. We have been desperate for a leader at the back (Hill, but younger) but the focus for me has to be on the front line. If we only make one signing this summer it has to be a centre forward or striker. We do actually create more than enough chances to win these games and we just don't take them. These aren't difficult chances to convert and with a specialist we could be scoring freely. It's why I'm optimistic, providing we get the right player in. These players are expensive, even for a young prospect, but it's absolutely essential we address this as the priority. I'm assuming this is one of the targets we are at advanced stages in negotiations with, and I'd expect we will hear some positive news about this as we approach the end of the season. If we get this right we always have the chance of outscoring the opposition and winning games. The other positions are important, but not as critical.
Frankie 8,652
I think PC has largely sorted out (or at least vastly improved) the defensive side of the team and we're much better organised at set-pieces especially. Where we're still struggling is taking our chances and that has to come down to personnel. For all his positives, Miller isn't a goalscorer (and definitely can't do two jobs) whilst Waghorn and Garner don't seem reliable. Dodoo looks more useful in a wider role and MOH seems to be finished. We need a Jelavic style player and, arguably, may need to spend Jelavic type money to bring such in.
les186 271
Yes defensively we have improved. We are not playing tippy tappy at the edge of the opposition box anymore, getting nowhere until we lose possession and our opponents launch a long ball to score against a depleted defence.

On Saturday we hardly got near the penalty area for an hour be it tippy tappy or not.

The tippy tappy approach only "worked" against opponents who allowed us easy possession.

I agree that is why I say I don't mind tippy tappy possession football but then with better players that have an end product and can play their way out of a press. Maybe I just want Barcelona.
ranger_syntax 4,422
Although we will do better I think we can expect another frustrating season. As an aside I hope we're not still debating Kenny Miller and his contract extension.
Crimson Dynamo 128
It'll be interesting to see the 11 that starts the last game of the season to the 11 that starts the first game of next season. I'd let Tavernier, Kiernan, Halliday, MacKay, Waghorn & Forester go. If we could recoup most of what we paid I'd let Garner go also.

I am not sure about Tavernier i think there is a player in there somewhere. I would want decent money for McKay but I won't argue with the rest. I am afraid I agree more with Willie Henderson though there is only about 4 I would keep if we could afford it. I liked Halliday in the begin but he seemed to nosedive.
Crimson Dynamo 128
If Tavernier could be properly converted to midfield I'd give him a chance. He's not a defender though too easily and far too often exposed.
