The Pre-Summer-2017 transfer rumours and hearsay all inclusive Thread

Recommended Posts

It's in the interest of the SFA to start having teams making it to the group stages of the Euro competitions. Despite anything else I expect them to act out of self interest rather than the interests of Rangers. There seems to be a concerted effort going on to tighten up at the back and that was one of the main areas of concern all of us complained of the entire season.

If we can close that flapping door we can get to that money spinning group and a return of Euro nights to Ibrox at least up till Xmas. It's early days but if all the rumours are true a lot of work is going on to make us a far more formidable outfit. I'm encouraged.

Rangers to present new signing on June 13th, and it’s absolutely huge news in Mexico

Carlos ‘Gullit’ Peña’s transfer to Rangers is a huge thing in the Mexican football media.

After claims of a deal, journalist Franisco Montes from Fox Sports has a few more details, saying the player only needs to sign the contract for the transfer to be made official.

He claims that Rangers are paying $4m (£3.12m) for the midfielder, on the recommendation of Pedro Caixinha, and Fox Sports says that Gullit should be presented at Ibrox on June 13th.

Mexican newspaper Record also gives much attention to the transfer, with two different stories about it.

The first one is a touching column written by Luis Garcia, in which he tells Peña this is the best chance the player will have to overcome the many adversities in his career.

The column mentions the irony that such a smart manager as Pedro Caixinha is now the one giving an opportunity for Peña to leave his behavioural issues in the past.

Record then comes up with a two-page article saying the player is getting to the Scottish Premiership, with a well known reputation as a party lover.

Taking claims from the British press, they show that the midfielder’s love for the nightlife is already being commented on by the local papers, even though his quality on the pitch should not be questioned.

Record also uses the opportunity to explain Rangers to a Mexican audience, saying how the club are working to rebuild their reputation, Rangers’ links with religion, Ibrox legends, and the players who should compete with Gullit for a place in the starting team.

Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha has his sights set on Mexican striker Eduardo Herrera

Herrera, who has three international goals in nine games for the Central American nation, only joined current side Veracruz on loan earlier this year from Pumas.

Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha is set to launch an audacious bid to sign current Mexican international striker Eduardo Herrera.

And the Portuguese boss is also confident of signing two other players from the Mexican League, with midfielder Carlos Pena edging closer to completing a move and serious interest being shown in full back Javier Abella.

Rangers' interest in Pena, known as Gullit in his homeland for his resemblance to Dutch legend Ruud, has been confirmed by the player's agent, who revealed this week the Ibrox side are deep in negotiations to sign the controversial Leon player either on loan or permanent transfer.

The party-loving playmaker would welcome the chance of a move to Glasgow to resurrect his international career, which has stalled on 19 caps.

But Caixinha has also turned his attention to two of his former players at Santos Laguna, who he managed from 2013 to 2015.

And his move to snap up 28-year-old Herrera is a bold one.

Herrera, who has three international goals in nine games for the Central American nation, only joined current side Veracruz on loan earlier this year from Pumas.

He would cost a seven figure transfer fee for Rangers to prise him to Scotland.

Caixinha has already gone on record expressing his regret that he never turned a loan move for Herrera into a permanent move when he was in charge of Santos Laguna.

He said: "I think it was a mistake by me not to try and sign him."He was a player who contributed a lot at the time at Santos. He's improved every year and is now a complete striker."He's Mexican, he's very professional and he scores goals. He was a great player for me."

Caixinha's Mexican wishlist is completed by 23-year-old defender Abella.

Abella, primarily a right back, has spent his whole career at Santos and Caixinha is a huge fan of the player, who has represented Mexico at the Olympics.

And last year the player credited Caixinha for the progress in his career.

He said: "The fundamental thing was the way Pedro lives games, his passion...it helped me a lot."The training was always based on intensity and exercises with the ball. I learned a lot and will be eternally grateful."

I believe it. That price is bang on his value. And there is nothing in our past two seasons to suggest money will not be given. We spent £2m last season. The rumours about king and co not putting in the money promised are completely false. They're on course to invest £30m over 4-5 years. Think so far its somewhere between £12-£16m invested (inc purchase). Keep in mind its in the clubs best interests to do without these loans so hopefully we can hit our targets without too much soft debt.
