Rangers' Pedro Caixinha names Aberdeen line-up as he predicts Derek McInnes' choices for clash

In a surprise move, Caixinha listed the players he reckons Derek McInnes will use tomorrow by handing out an A4 sheet naming everyone from Joe Lewis to Adam Rooney.

Pedro Caixinha refused to give his Rangers team – then handed Record Sport the Aberdeen line-up instead.

The Ibrox boss dismissed claims he showed disrespect to Kilmarnock by naming his line-up 24 hours before their midweek clash.

He still has to settle on his starting XI for a game he reckons will be a trip to hell but it didn’t stop him listing the players he reckons Derek McInnes will use tomorrow by handing out an A4 sheet naming everyone from Joe Lewis to Adam Rooney.

He praised the Dons and said: “They play collectively and fight for their goals. I see it as a fantastic challenge, to see if we have solutions to beat that passion.

“Everyone says we are going to hell. I like those type of scenarios. Football is about challenges.”

Killie’s Conor Sammon claimed Caixinha lacked respect, naming his team before the game, then said his club were spinning it that way even if they knew the real reason.

But the Gers boss said it wasn’t arrogance but a statement of his belief in his squad who must win at Pittodrie to have a chance of taking second place in the league.

He said: “I’m not going to get into that. The Kilmarnock match was over after the post-match press conference.

“But there is one thing you need to understand. There are wars and if I want to get into that war I will go until the end, until either I die or I win.

“When something is different from normal life, everyone takes a step back and asks, ‘What is going on?’

“If I am to be criticised for being different then I am open to that. But I am not going to be one of those who follows the other guy who is going in a certain direction.

“I think with my own head. This is Rangers and we want things to be the way we want them to be.”

I dont even want to guess what team PC will play. But is there an argument to play Hodson at LB so Tav can go to RB meaning another natural midfielder in the centre of the park?

McInnes has got Aberdeen punching above their weight, they are on a good run but its confidence that is making them second in the league and not a much better ability IMO.

I think this is what he'll do. A defence of Hodson, Wilson, bates, Tav... Allowing Toral to come back in to play the CDM role. I reckon Waghorn will play wide again... Although I'd much rather see the team the OP suggests as the sheep will be dangerous on the right flank and I don't think Tav is good enough defensively to deal with it.

Fray Bentos steak pies? Need to remind the wife to scrub them from the shopping list!

The culprit was tinned corned beef:

1964 Aberdeen typhoid outbreak

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In 1964 there was an outbreak of typhoid in the city of Aberdeen, Scotland. The first two cases were identified on 20 May 1964; eventually over 400 cases were diagnosed and the patients were quarantined at the City Hospital in Urquhart Road, but no fatalities resulted. Dr Ian MacQueen, the Medical Officer of Health for Aberdeen, became well known in the media for his twice-daily briefings.[1][2]

The outbreak was eventually traced to contaminated tinned corned beef from South America made by Fray Bentos and sold in the city's branch of the Scottish grocery chain William Low. Pollution from the waters of the Uruguay River (which flows into the Río de la Plata) appeared to be the source of the contamination, probably through water entering a defective tin through a small puncture. The infected meat then contaminated a meat slicing machine within the William Low shop, leading to the spread of the disease.

McInnes hopes his Dons side can deliver the knockout blow and all but secure a second-placed finish for the third consecutive Premiership season.

Rangers might have the finance but Derek McInnes insists Aberdeen have shown the fighting spirit in the battle for second place. And he hopes his Dons side can deliver the knockout blow and all but secure a best-of-the-rest finish for the third consecutive Premiership season.

Figures released in The Global Sports Salaries Survey showed Rangers' average player wage is more than double the amount spent by Aberdeen.

But while the Light Blues are comfortably second in the Money League it’s McInnes’s men who are 12 points clear where it matters in the top flight.

Former Gers boss Mark Warburton splashed out £1.8million Joe Garner in the summer and shelled out around £20,000 a week on controversial midfielder Joey Barton.

Barton received a six-figure pay-off after a bust-up and that’s all McInnes has spent on a player in four years with midfielder Kenny McLean proving a shrewd buy. The Dons gaffer says you can’t put a price on the effort his players give him which saw him pick up the Ladbrokes Manager of the Month award for March after a perfect spell that saw them win three league games and a Scottish Cup quarter-final without conceding a goal.

And ahead of tomorrow’s lunchtime showdown with their bitter rivals McInnes said: “Rangers are the only other club away from Celtic that can spend money in Scotland.“But it is not just money that is needed to get a winning team. We have a lot more going for us. There is so much more and we have got that in spades.

“Rangers have four or five times what we can spend on a squad. We have spent £200,000 on Kenny McLean in the four years we have been here.“The players work extremely hard and we’re getting everything out of this group of boys. In terms of the effort they give me and the club I can’t ask for more.“That is something you can’t put a figure on. The manner of some of the performances have been excellent.

“Any personal award is the result of a collective effort.“If we can continue with the form we are on it gives us a lot of confidence we can achieve what we want to achieve this year.

“At the minute we want to win the Scottish Cup and finish second in the league.“If we win on Sunday and go 15 points clear with six games to go we would be confident we would get second spot.”

Former Gers midfielder McInnes was touted for the hotseat at his old club when Warburton left – with the 45-year-old the bookies’ favourite and legendary Ibrox gaffer Walter Smith also urging the board to appoint him.

But that doesn’t give him extra motivation ahead of tomorrow as he takes on new Rangers gaffer Pedro Caixinha who claimed he is preparing for a trip to “hell”.

The Dons boss knows it will be a tasty atmosphere at a pumped-up Pittodrie and hopes for a repeat of the dramatic last-gasp win when the teams met in the north east last September.

But McInnes said of being linked with the Gers job: “When jobs come up or players are linked with speculation, you just see it as speculation.“I made it clear that all my concentration was on Aberdeen.

“It is always difficult for a new manager coming in at this stage in the season. Pedro is assessing the squad and trying to get his ideas across. He seems very open and honest and he is getting a grasp and handle of the job he is in.“He has obviously assessed the squad and has been trying to get his ideas across. I do like the way he has come across.

“We are just concentrating on being as good as we can be regardless of what Rangers team turns up and what formation they play.“In terms of talking about a trip to hell I think the translation of that is he knows it is an important game. He is just trying to stress he knows the importance of the rivalry between the two clubs.“Players, like the supporters, see this as a really meaningful fixture. It is always eagerly anticipated and a good game to play in. It will be sold out by the time kick-off comes round and there is still a lot on the game.

“When Rangers visit Aberdeen it is always eagerly anticipated but I wouldn’t go as far as hell. It was built up the last time and passed without incident.“It was the atmosphere you wanted with two sets of fans, the majority of the Aberdeen fans going home happy because of the last-minute winner.“It was a brilliant atmosphere and we have all sampled far worse than that.

“It is eagerly anticipated by the fans when the fixtures come out. It would have been one of the first they looked at but for us we see it as an opportunity to cement second spot.

“Rangers will come up fighting, trying to seize their opportunity to try to get closer to us.”

Thats the only UK betting site I can view obviously because cant sign up and bet. But some tasty odds there which I would be taking a punt on. I would take a few of the draw odds straight away. Rangers draw no bet would be worth a heavy punt.

I don't really care where we finish in the league this season. In fact I think I would rather be spared the embarrassment of early round humiliation in Europe next season against Barry Town.

Next season we need to be challenging for the title and that's all there is to it.

St Johnstone are creeping up behind us and that would be a disaster dropping to 4th.

A big game today and like the OP mentioned a vile rivalry which I only know too well have suffered a few times.

I hope we go for it. Depending on availability id go 4-5-1 / 4-3-3:

Foderingham

Tavernier Wilson Bates Hodson

Waghorn Hyndman Toral Holt McKay

Miller
