CUP FINAL KO Rangers and Celtic set to block public ticket sale for Old Firm Youth Cup Final over crowd trouble fears

However it's believed the SFA*are exploring live streaming options to give supporters the chance to watch the match online

FANS*hoping to attend this season’s Old Firm Youth Cup Final look set to miss out as Rangers and Celtic prepare to block a public sale.

The Under-20s fixture has been marred by violence in previous years, along with recent*Under-17 Glasgow Cup clashes.

That has forced organisers to restrict tickets for the matches, with last year’s Glasgow Cup Final being played in front of just 3000 spectators at Ibrox.

And SFA insiders have confirmed that the fan ban is likely to continue*this term, with both clubs expected to hold talks*over the fixture*tomorrow.

SunSport Online understands both Celtic and Rangers have requested around*1000 briefs each, which will be distributed internally.

It’s likely the tickets will be offered to local schoolkids – as has been the case in recent campaigns*– with no option to pay-at-the-gate.

The news will come as a disappointment to ordinary fans who want to go along and watch the latest crop of Scotland’s up and coming youngsters.

However, it’s believed the SFA*are exploring live streaming options to give supporters the chance to watch the match online, ensuring punters*don’t miss out.

The decision, expected to be agreed by all parties including Police Scotland,*comes after trouble at*a Glasgow Cup Final in 2013, where*7500 fans packed into Firhill stadium.

Hundreds of seats were destroyed, while flares were also set off during the game and thrown onto the pitch as Rangers eventually ran out 3-2 winners.

This season’s Youth Cup Final – set to be played at Hampden on Wednesday April 26 – will be one of THREE meetings between the Glasgow rivals in just SIX*days.

The senior teams*will battle it out for a place in the Scottish Cup Final on Sunday April 23 before facing each other again in the final derby game of the season at Ibrox the following Saturday.

That's a good idea MacK! I fail to see why anyone from either club can possibly deny season ticket holders in the family section a chance to watch youth in the cup final. The kids that sit in family section will relate and associate with potential future heroes on the park.

I would like to think this would be implemented as this parochial thinking is not out of place with the SFA, however our club are normally proactive in their initiatives.
