Scottish Cup Final detective squad carry out dawn raids to arrest five football yobs

FIVE people have been arrested following a series of dawn raids as police continue their hunt in connection with violence and disorder at last year's Scottish Cup Final.

A team of detectives responsible for catching those involved in the Hampden pitch invasion yesterday lead an operation across the central belt.

Five men, who were allegedly involved in incidents following the end of the Hibernian and Rangers match at Hampden Park on May 21, received a knock of the door from police officers and were informed of their arrest.

The men, aged 45, 25, 19, 19 and 17, joined the 150 other people who have been arrested as part of the almost year-long Operation Tonish.

Detective Inspector Greig Wilkie, who is second in command for the specialist team who are based at Govan Police Office, said: “This was another pre-planned operation which we have had a number of since the inception of this investigation.

“This is actually our 16th planned operation which involved going for a number of identified targets, both Hibernian and Rangers supporters.”

The squad of detectives met at 5am for a briefing on their latest operation.

Officers were then divided into groups to hit properties in Glasgow, Ayrshire, Haddington, Musselburgh and Livingston.

DI Wilkie warned that there are more arrests to come and advised that his officers will use a number of different operational tactics which means you could get nabbed at any time if you were involved in the disorder.

DI Wilkie said: “The intelligence from this operation comes from a whole host of different sources.“We begin with an image of unknown male or female on the pitch who is identified for an act of violence or disorder, and that is where the work really starts.“It can takes weeks and weeks to get to this stage because of the volume of the offenders involved.“There will be more arrests to come.”

The team at Govan released another batch of images exclusively to The Evening Times.

Anyone with information about the identities of the persons pictured is asked to contact the Incident room at Govan Police Office, Greater Glasgow CID on 0141 532 5457.

If you wish to give information anonymously, Crimestoppers can be reached on 0800 555 111.

Plod Scotland haven't exactly covered themselves in glory over this have they ?

Are they trying to balance out the number of arrests or something ? Hibz caused the problems. Their supporters should have the majority of the arrests.

Still annoys me how this has more or less been swept under the carpet. We can all imagine the uproar if this had happened the other way around! Christ they would have wanted us banned from ever playing again and made up rule after rule to hit us with.... Oh wait that's already happened once!
