King breaks silence Rangers chairman Dave King has promised he WILL back new boss Pedro Caixinha in the transfer market

DAVE KING has promised he will back new Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha in the transfer market.

Ibrox supremo King broke his silence to confirm he has spoken with the Portuguese coach for the first time.

He said: “Yes, I have welcomed Pedro to Rangers and we will meet in person next week. The selection and vetting process was undertaken by the football club’s executive board, with final recommendation to me and the RIFC board. That is how it should work.”

Having settled compensation with Caixinha’s previous club Al-Gharafa, the 46-year-old arrived in Glasgow last Saturday.

He will take charge of the team for the first time against Hamilton Accies at Ibrox on Saturday.

King claims he is excited by what Caixinha can bring to Gers and their ambitions to drive the club forward.

Previous boss Mark Warburton recruited more than 25 players during his time in the Ibrox hotseat.

But Gers fans fear major reconstruction will again be required in the summer, as Gers look to mount a title challenge to Celtic next season.

Asked if funds would be available to Caixinha, King added: “Of course.“This season has been disappointing, but I believe the squad is better than their results, and the new manager will get more out of them.”

King, who is expected in Glasgow next Wednesday, also revealed Gers will now turn their attention to securing a director of football, after being snubbed in their approach for Southampton’s Ross Wilson.

A four-man short-list has been drawn up, but King insisted: “Like the manager, we will take our time to get the right person.”

Gers managing director Stewart Robertson also insists money will be available to strengthen the squad.

He said: “We know we are going to have to invest in the team to strengthen the squad and to take it forward.“So all of these things are there. We need that. Without that we won’t take Rangers forward.

“That investment is going to be a key part of assisting Pedro to take Rangers forward.“You just have to look at the base that’s here, the potential there is at Ibrox.“We all know we’re in a rebuilding phase, a transitional phase at the club.“That needs good people, people like Pedro, and it needs investment.“We know we’re going to have to strengthen the squad if we want to take it forward.”

Hope it's true but won't be holding my breath.

If the board pay for targets identified by Pedro, then they are supporting.

we were told that MW got the targets he asked for.....

Just coz we don't spend 1m, 2m, 3m per player, doesn't mean that the board are not supporting the manager. We will just have to wait & see who Pedro want's to bring in.
