Rangers fan handed match ban after leading a crowd to storm Hampden turf

Recommended Posts

A RANGERS fan was sentenced at Glasgow Sheriff Court after he attempted to break a police barrier to get to Hibs fans.

Derek Auld, along with thousands of other fans on the day of last year’s Scottish Cup final, stormed on to the pitch after the final whistle blew.

The court heard that the 44-year-old was part of a crowd of Rangers fans who entered the field of play after the Hibs victory.

He was seen at the front of this crowd attempting to get to Hibs fans. Auld admitted that on May 21 last year at the Scottish Cup final at Hampden he conducted himself in a disorderly manner, entered the field of play, repeatedly attempted to approach opposition supporters and committed a breach of the peace.

He was sentenced to carry out 160 of unpaid work and banned from attending football matches for a year.

Re-writing of History. I honestly cannot recall any Rangers fans immediately storming onto the pitch at full time. This was only in response to the Hibs fans taunting and goading (to the best of my recollection).

Technically the report is accurate.

1. There WERE thousands of fans on the pitch that day

2. It doesn't say Rangers fans were on the field immediately

But, what is important is that, as Mack1950 says, it is the WAY it is reported. Reading it you would absolutely be led to believe that it was thousands of Rangers fans that stormed the pitch. Poor reporting

More rewriting of history from this republican leaning rag! It seems the narritive suggests "thousands of Rangers" fans. On further inspection we realise it's slightly ambiguous. However written in such a way as to potentially insinuate thousands of Rangers fans.

Horrible little rag.
