Matt Crooks Scores Winner For Scunthorpe

Recommended Posts

I'd like to see the lad given a chance; we've had him written off since he arrived, but he's only played 2 games for us -- bad team performances at that. He's only 23, playing League Two last year and is now playing in League One for a side in the play-offs, fighting for automatic promotion. League One might not be good enough for us, but it does show progress.

It looked like he was bought as back-up to Halliday and then we obviously had the chance to sign Rossiter, which we took and then we signed Barton so he was suddenly number 4 and injured.

Perhaps we could have held onto him as we could have done with another defensive midfielder over the past few months.

FYI, it's a myth that he's a defensive midfielder. I'm not sure where that came from, but it appears to be a view held by most supporters speak to. He's actually a very attacking minded player and has never been regarded as a holding/defensive player. He was sent out on loan because we already had Holt, Halliday, Windass and Forrester to play those advanced roles. You may well then ask why we bought him in the first place ..... good question.

Gaffer, that's where it was reported that he played for Accrington Stanley, when he wasn't playing at centre half. When has he played as an attacking midfielder?

The player himself said in an interview on Rangers TV he was an attacking midfielder, not defensive mate
